Green Turtle Restaurant- An Iconic Stopover on the Highway that Goes Out to Sea!

Turtle Stew, fine wines and Barb is about in heaven at the Green Turtle.
Farmed Snapping Turtle in a tomato based stew-like soup. The meat was just like true saltwater turtle soup now off all markets due to sea turtles being a protected animal.

The taste of this bread pudding was exceptional, changed daily, the staff continues to keep this dish different and surprisingly excellent.
A real slice of Key Lime Pie set in a Macadamia nut crust. Frankly, superb.

APressTravelNews-December 17th,-Green Turtle Restaurant, Islamorada, FL Keys. So now we have come to one of the most historical locations and restaurants in the Upper Keys for dinner. The Green Turtle Inn for decades, has been an iconic spot to stop along the Highway ‘that goes out to sea”- Overseas Highway, U.S. 1 in Islamorada, FL. Early on in Keys history, sea turtle was served in most restaurants in the Keys. WithTurtles today, being on the Federal Endangered Species list, “today’s Green Turtle Inn perfects authentic Florida Keys style cuisine, by combining the charm of the Keys laid back way of life with epicurean flair.” Fusion cuisine at its best can be found here. Tradition meets innovation in their menu offerings. The passion of their owners and staff is palpable when any diner spends just a few moments after being seated, by the enthusiasm and knowledge-ability of their hosts and wait staff. Their varied menu can certainly pique the interest of any gastrophile, with offerings, unlike most of the usual food emporiums, that serve the meats and seafood’s common in most restaurants, good bad and ugly. We were offered farm raised freshwater snapper turtle chowder (excellent) and a chunky lobster- tail, Corn-dog that was skewered, then butter-poached and battered, fried and topped with Thai Chile Sauce. Without a doubt as tasty as it gets! We finished our meal with coffee that tasted like the best coffee possible, a bread pudding, that nary a morsel was left, including the vanilla ice cream dipped up to the very last drop (best bread pudding ever, promise) and the Key Lime Pie was bedded in a Macadamia crust with fresh, delicious whipped cream-really way too good to not dream about. Take a look at their menu online-we plan on going back and raiding their menu, the offering are so luscious sounding. The Green Turtle is located 81219 Overseas Hywy.
