Kostas Family Restaurant in Dillsboro, N.C.

Best Calamari to start our meal, ever! Delicious and properly fried! Finished the plate between us. Usually don’t as too much breading and so-so sauce. Not at Kostas, promise they are first rate!!
Baklava is a perfect Greek dessert! Sweet and a great topping off of a great meal!
Barb was much pleased with her chicken dish, so was I, I finished it the next day. So much food, so good that why not take it home too!
A Basa fish specialty! All Greek to me!

American Press Travel News–May 1st, Dillsboro, N.C. at Kostas Family Restaurant.  Just heading into this little “burg” there are two terrific restaurants. First up-Kostas Family Restaurant. The staff was spectacular! From the tall-glass-of-water-owner to the wait staff and even the register gal, you felt that their name was apropos-Kostas “Family” Restaurant. Every diner who has visited a Greek owners restaurant knows about the Greek Salad. We both had one as part of our main dish platters. Decent amount of Greek Olives, tomatoes, greens and onions. The salad dressing was Mediterranean delicious. Grilled Basa fish topped with Feta Cheese, Spinach, onions and tomatoes with rice Pilaf. Together with fresh, hot Pita Pocket breads-WOW! Besides all the actual Greek specialties the restaurant had Italian dishes and all American ribs and meats too! Barb opted for a pasta dish with grilled chicken Parmesan, covered in real mozzarella, and oven baked with spaghetti. We finished off our meal with honey, nutty-stuffed Baklava and mom’s rice pudding! When you get over Dillsboro or Silva, N.C. way give a call, no reservations necessary most of the time: 828-631-0777  Visit them at: www.kostasdillsboro.com

Yes, Barb was really digging in to it all!!

AmericanPressTravelNews–November 3rd, Dublin, GA.-Bob and Barb “On The Road Again”, yet “Stopping to Smell the Roses, and Great Dishes Along the Way.”- While in Dublin, GA and staying at the amazingly beautiful Page House B&B, we went into town to check out the great restaurants Mono, Owner of Page House told us about. The first location was called Company Supply. Well, the name really fooled us as I hear it does to newcomers to Dublin. First of all, The owner Richard Mascaro’s company mission is to provide their customers with all natural, hormone and antibiotic free-food  choices. They also strive to source organic and local when available.crawfish-cakes

We sat down and enjoyed reading the menu which began the juices flowing: Craw Cake’s for an appetizer caught us first – a mix of craw-fish tails, spices, Trinity and Panko bread crumbs, cooked to perfection, accompanied by corn and feta salad with Creole aioli-viva the tail! Superlative appetizer!

We also checked out Sweet curry chicken salad, Chipotle Pimento  cheese,  Black-Eyed Pea Hummus. Served with warm pita bread. Call Cole Trio Coco Cole Trio.appetizer-tapas

General Supply as they call it, offers there award winning main entree: Delta chicken. A grilled breast, sauteed spinach sun-dried tomatoes, becamel sauce, goat cheese, and served over garlic roasted mashed potatoes. Zowie! We loved this dish too-if you remember from other posts, we are big on garlic and so is Mascaro.chicken-mascaro

We Are All Rich If We Have Good Health 1ST

Americanpresstravelnews-May 20th, Goose Holler’ Farm, TN.–We were sent this Healthstyle Guide and we (Bob & Barb, “Stopping to Smell the Roses”) want our readers to live healthy, 1st!!Thsg

Tip of the Day:

Do you think you have a Thyroid Problem?

The thyroid is the most metabolically active gland in your entire body.  If your thyroid is functioning at full capacity, weightloss becomes relatively easy.  If it’s not, however — which is the case for most — losing even a single pound can become seemingly impossible.

5 Foods Doctors Swear By – Cancer Fighters Thrive

Do you want to super-charge your diet with some of the most outstanding foods for your health … but you’re not sure where to start? Or have you grown tired of broccoli and almonds, and you’re looking for a nutritious change of pace? The Huffington Post featured five of the top foods to consider; these are so good (and so good for you) that they’re endorsed by some of the top nutrition experts around.

1. Greek Yogurt

Gerard Mullin, MD, director of the Johns Hopkins Integrative GI Nutrition Services, recommends Greek yogurt for “palatability, satiation and protein content.” Plus, yogurt is an important source of probiotics, or beneficial bacteria that improve the health of your microbiome. He further explained:

Organic, grass-fed yogurt is best because you are getting a better omega fatty acid profile. When animals are fed corn they produce dairy with more omega-6s, but grass-fed animals produce dairy with more healthy omega-3s.”

2. Chickpeas

David Katz, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P.M., F.A.C.P., Director of the Yale University Prevention Research Center, recommends chickpeas for their high protein content, which is especially useful if you’re trying to avoid or cut back on meat.

3. Dark, Leafy Greens

According to Donald D. Hensrud, M.D, M.P.H., chair of the Division of Preventive, Occupational, and Aerospace Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, dark leafy greens can’t be beat for their high nutritional content and low calories. He recommends arugula, spinach and lettuces prepared in a variety of ways – salads, pasta dishes, lasagna, pesto, soups and spinach pie.

4. Eggs

Robert Lustig, M.D., M.S.L., director of the Weight Assessment for Teen and Child Health (WATCH) Program at the University of California, San Francisco and president of the nonprofit Institute for Responsible Nutrition, recommends eggs for their high-quality protein, including tryptophan, which may help with weight management. He said:

“Eggs got a bad rap in the 1980s because of the cholesterol in the yolk. But it does not raise the small dense LDL, which is the atherogenic particle [the one that forms plaques in your arteries]. Eggs are great by themselves, with many different ways of preparation, or they can be added to foods easily.”

5. Avocados

Taz Bhatia, M.D., assistant professor at Emory University in Preventive/Integrative Medicine and director of the Atlanta Center for Holistic and Integrative Medicine, said she swears by avocados for their heart-healthy unsaturated fat. In addition to helping you feel full longer, avocados contain vitamins C, K and B6 along with pre- and probiotics for a healthy gut.

Bob Evans, Got Breakfast? Yes and a Whole Lot More!

Aptravelnews-March 4th,-Port St. Lucie, FL-Bob n Barb “Stopping to Smell the Roses”--This morning we headed to Bob Evans this morning for breakfast. Once in awhile, we enjoy eating out. So today we decided to try the large chain, but family owned, (we do not write about chain, “big boxes” unless they are great, and none of them are great, just some very good ones) Bob Evans Restaurant in Port St Lucie West, Florida. Omelettes and crepes and one thing for sure, coffee was hot and the orange juice tasted like orange. We certainly enjoyed our experience here. We told the manager that we can recommend this restaurant to anyone we know, yes we certainly can! We had Blueberry Crepes, and a Farm Omelette with mushrooms and spinach-delicious! Their grits were great, and a taste of their pancakes too, convinced me that we can always go back!
