American Press Travel News December 5th,Port St Lucie, FL–Bob and Barb “On The Road Again”–Grandpa Bert Veluca, a New York original has had 35-restaurants serving Italian specialties. He retired, but wanted to be socially active and not bored. So, Bert affectionately known as “grandpa”, opened Grandpa’s between Ace hardware and Publics, just off US 1, South Federal Highway. Serving daily breakfast, lunch and dinner. We stopped for lunch and enjoyed shrimp and grits, a broiled cod meal. We tried a short order of chicken wings and drums in garlic and parm sauce, too. Grandpa Bert told us that beef liver and onions, fish and chips, and meatloaf are entrée’s most often ordered at Grandpa’s. Grandpa’s has the breakfast, lunch and dinners anytime you want to visit a real local, non-commercial food spot.
On another day we lunched at Flavor Restaurant and Seafood off of S.W. Bayshore Blvd. They call it “best Caribbean food in town.” We had Stew Chicken with black rice and fried pork dish with mushroomed rice. Flavor Restaurant is located on Bayshore Blvd. in Port St Lucie, FL

Enrico’s Pizza, A Whole Lot More Than Pie

American Press Travel News-Sept 28th, Islamorada, FL Keys–Bob n Barb “On the Road Again” Enrico’s New York Style Pizzeria. Growing up in Brooklyn, many of my memories I recall today were the great Kosher Pickles, corned beef sandwiches, hot dogs and sauerkraut, and great garlic pizza dripping with olive oil and chewy, gooey mozzarella. With a Root beer float, I always was delighted and happiest in my Williamsburg apartment near the Brooklyn Bridge. So fast forward several decades later, here I am in Islamorada, and up pops Enrico’s Pizza at MM 88.8. After meeting and getting to know Laurenzo (Larry) Calvano, owner/operator and Master Pizziolo of Enrico’s, and Dominic Congeni, Chef, I felt right at home and knew Italian fare here was going to be great. I/we were not disappointed. My son Dave, Director of Emergency Management at Homestead Air Force Base decided to join us. He now can tell his associates where they can get a good meal down in the Keys near his home in Islamorada.  Out came the pizza, out came the clams oreganato with linguine, the shrimp risotto too! I asked Larry about his experiences so far, since Enrico’s just opened in the past two week. Larry told me that “we wanted to be that neighborhood place and feel, and we are being slammed as a Keys great local Pizzeria. The whole vibe is fabulous, and its all about family, Italian food is all about family mangia, together with love and happiness.” We felt it! We’ll be back! Give a call, say hello, and be prepared to be very happy at Enrico’s New York Style Pizzeria with Italian dish specialties, everyone loves if they are authentic. This place is authentic!! Give a call or just stop in. 305-852-2200

American Press Travel News-May 5th–Key Largo and Islamorada, Florida Keys-“Bob & Barb On the Road Again” and “Stopping to Smell the Roses & Admiring the Hibiscus Flowers.. So our son David had his 50th Birthday and was spending his day on the Charter Craft, Blue Chip 2 with veteran Captain Skip Bradeen, his mate David and my sons friends John ElKoury, Billy Pope and Dave, all part of Coastal Reality of the Florida Keys, Allan Pope owner of Keys Life Magazine, Eric Dyer another of David’s childhood and lifelong friends and Captain Key Largo; my younger son Brian Epstein who runs his backcountry boat out of Key Largo and who knows where the big ones lurk and jerk the lines.
The day was blustery, but on the Blue Chip 2 we caught fish, the heck with the wind and swells. Everyone caught dinner sized yellowtail snapper, and some tuna including bonita and down deep Mutton Snappers. It was a great day and it finished with a special fishing and boating themed and decorated cake, too!

At the end of day yours truly went on Captain Skips Radio Show to talk about the day and my published Keys themed books. We ate yellowtail of the day and at least one beer at the Moose Club.
