Barb loves a meat dish once and awhile too! She found it at Leroy's. This (short ribs) beef was succulent ! She ate as much as she wanted and I kissed off the rest of my naked crab and slayed what was left of her beef cow! Loved it even as it was cooled down! If it tasted great hot or cold its truly great beef!

Kaiyogrill & Sushi in Islamorada-A Step Up & Outta Sight for Japanese Cold and Hot Grill Specialties

Avacado stuffed with tuna tartar, and cream cheese, Executive Sous Chef Adrian Quesada, topped this with spicy mayo and tobiko then lightly torched this melange and served it with wonton chips. We were hooked!
Executive Sous Chef Adrian Quesada for the past 4-years, putting the finishing touches on our Avocado Suchi dish-some fire to meld it all together.

AmericanPressTravelNews-January 1st, Bob & Barb “On the Road Again” stopping at the Kaiyogrill & Sushi Dining Establishment-Islamorada, FL Keys. When we visited this upscale, yet laid- back restaurant decorated in a distinctly Asian motif, totally reminiscent of some of the fanciest sushi bars and restaurants found in larger cities such as Miami, Orlando, New York,  we felt right at home. But here it is, gourmet sushi and delightful grill right in the middle of Islamorada, between the Atlantic and a thousand feet to the Gulf of Mexico too! Just about any type of sushi, sashimi, rolls, and a wide variety of hot dishes such as steaks, scallops, stuffed shrimps and lobster tails can be had here, grilled and sumptuous. Executive Sous Chef Adrian Quesada introduced us to their Asian Fusion themed food emporium and we were very impressed. There is a hot and cold kitchen, open six days per week. He described their Udon Noodles (we’re going back to slither some down the pipeline, their “Drunken Scallops” in a beer sauce, and a variety of offerings (see their online menu) that had the juices steadily flowing. Kaiyogrill & Sushi will have their own page in our “Florida Keys Best Restaurants” book coming out in late February. go: www.kaiyoGrill.com (305)-664-5556

Franks Grill in Marathon-A Terrific Italian American Restaurant

Barb is in her element! Great food, great surroundings and of course pretty good company too!
Osso Bucco made with pork shanks, and mighty good and plenty! Tastes at Franks remind one of the best meals that momma and papa Leoni used to make in the early days of America.
Yellowtail is a very delicate fleshed dish, few chefs get it exactly right. Franks gets it exactly right and then-some!
First time I had blueberries embedded in Key Lime Pie. It was very special!

AmericanPressTravelNews- Marathon, FL. Keys, January 1st,-Bob and Barb “On The Road Again” Stopping to smell the garlic at Franks Grill. For decades, Frank’s Grill has wowed it’s patrons with authentic Italian-American dishes that do a whole lot more than just please the palate, and nose, but also please the eyes, as well. The yellowtail snapper dish was exquisitely prepared. We enjoyed ala Francaise, sauteed with butter , white wine and lemon juice in a light egg wash. The Osso Bucco dish was amazing. A Melanese specialty of cross cut pork shanks with vegetables, white wine and broth done Frank’s high and delicious style. All manner of veal, chicken, duck and spaghetti dishes were on the menu. The desserts such as Key Lime Pie, bulging with fresh blueberries was different and quite a treat as was the New York Cheese Cake, a specialty few restaurants in the Keys serve. The wait staff, excellent! The table and decor were first rate too! Eggplant, shells, Manacotti, linguine, Steak Roma, lamb chops, N.Y. Strip, Ribeye and the entire seafood melange of delicacies. Franks Grill is located at 11400 Overseas Highway 113th street Gulfside in Town Square Mall, Marathon FL. go: FranksGrillMarathon.com   305-289-7772 open Monday thru Friday 10am-3-pm and dinner from 5-pm-9pm on Saturday.

New York Cheesecake! Yes, even in Marathon.

The Fish House Restaurant & Seafood Market; Fresh, Fresh & Tasty

Barb meets Captain Hook! The restaurants greeter-few words, mighty message!

AmericanPressTravelNews-December 17th, Key Largo, FL.-Bob and Barb, “On The Road Again.” In our very difficult work of dining our way down the Keys for our updated book: “Best Restaurants in the Florida Keys” we would have been quite remiss in not including The Fish House Restaurant & Seafood Market. After meeting our hosts, owner C.J. Berwick and Manager Michelle Kosiek we settled in to share and taste their excellent cuisine. We began with one of their house specialties; Matecumbe Yellowtail Snapper in a terrific sauce of capers and herbed rice. Absolutely superb fish dish! We then dove into a Shrimp & Scallops Key Lime with rice. Problem we had was not over-eating, so some of it came home for next days luncheon-great the first day, superb even the second as juices marinated in. Samuel Ornelas, their chef for the past 27-years flashed a couple of fillets at us to remind us how fresh and firm all the fish, just out of the ocean looked after filleting. We had a Pina Colada and a Margarita, with our meals and then finished everything off with homemade coconut ice cream served in what else, but a coconut half.  This is a place in time and space in the Keys you just have to try yourself. So many dishes, so little time. It would take a year of eating every day to exhaust the menu and possible specials they will offer you. Check them out at MM102.4 Oceanside 102401 Overseas Highway, Key Largo, FL www.fishhouse.com— they are open 7-days per week from 11:30 am for lunch and and at 4:00 pm on for dinner. Give a call too if you like at 305-451-HOOK (4665) You can also email them at the [email protected]
