Enrico’s Pizza, A Whole Lot More Than Pie

American Press Travel News-Sept 28th, Islamorada, FL Keys–Bob n Barb “On the Road Again” Enrico’s New York Style Pizzeria. Growing up in Brooklyn, many of my memories I recall today were the great Kosher Pickles, corned beef sandwiches, hot dogs and sauerkraut, and great garlic pizza dripping with olive oil and chewy, gooey mozzarella. With a Root beer float, I always was delighted and happiest in my Williamsburg apartment near the Brooklyn Bridge. So fast forward several decades later, here I am in Islamorada, and up pops Enrico’s Pizza at MM 88.8. After meeting and getting to know Laurenzo (Larry) Calvano, owner/operator and Master Pizziolo of Enrico’s, and Dominic Congeni, Chef, I felt right at home and knew Italian fare here was going to be great. I/we were not disappointed. My son Dave, Director of Emergency Management at Homestead Air Force Base decided to join us. He now can tell his associates where they can get a good meal down in the Keys near his home in Islamorada.  Out came the pizza, out came the clams oreganato with linguine, the shrimp risotto too! I asked Larry about his experiences so far, since Enrico’s just opened in the past two week. Larry told me that “we wanted to be that neighborhood place and feel, and we are being slammed as a Keys great local Pizzeria. The whole vibe is fabulous, and its all about family, Italian food is all about family mangia, together with love and happiness.” We felt it! We’ll be back! Give a call, say hello, and be prepared to be very happy at Enrico’s New York Style Pizzeria with Italian dish specialties, everyone loves if they are authentic. This place is authentic!! Give a call or just stop in. 305-852-2200

Rosati’s Pizza and Mission Barbeque Just Great For Our FL. Neighborhood

American Press Travel News–December 18th, Port St Lucie, FL. Bob and Barb “On the Road Again”–We often take for granted how many businesses are in walking distance to the front gate of our Florida home. Upon our return from an extended time at our TN farm,  we marveled at how many new food spots opened since we had left last April. Here’s just two of several new ones we just tried:
When Rosati’s opened last July, they were expanding their pizza business from Wisconsin to Florida, from their corporate headquarters in Chicago, into Port St Lucie, West.  They are a great spot to get great hand-thrown dough pizzas delivered, or that can be picked up anytime day or night.
The business offers great salads, pasta and pizza as carry out, but there is some seating inside and outside as well. My favorite pizza is adorned with real garlic, olives and mushrooms, on a thin-crust with some crispy bubbles from the bake. When I see round mounds of dough ready to be rolled out, spun and thrown, I know the place is keeping it “real.”
If you just crave a slice and a soda, its $5-bucks. We tried both a Chicago style thick crust cheese and delicious Italian chunky pizza sauce. Both the thin and the thick variety were quite good-we’ll go back or call for more next week. Rosati’s motto is “Keeping It Real Since 1964.” They also provide catering services and they are located just across from our gate the opposite end of Dunkin Donuts. 772-340-0999.

Mission Barbeque, on our side of Port St Lucie Blvd., on restaurant row, is a unique smoked-meat BBQ. Every day at 12-PM all employees and guests stand, hold their hands over their hearts and sing the National Anthem. Barb and I enjoyed seeing youngsters joining in with their parents and the employee’s seemed quite proud of their work place and support of our troops and our great nation. Just outside, there is a large Army truck, outdoor seating and plenty of parking. They make their 10-sauces daily and we enjoyed the smoked brisket, ribs, chicken and turkey, as well as their tasty side dishes, too. Get on line, pick your favorites, take a cup for soft drinks and be prepared to not go home hungry. We liked the place. and as we noticed at the lunchtime filled tables, so do many others in Port St Lucie. Stop in for a sample taste if you like. Located in Port St Lucie, West on St. Lucie West Blvd, just down from a Publics.

Bayside Gourmet of Islamorada Completely Lives Up to The Name

Bayside Gourmet is much more than a great restaurant. It offers a Bakery, Deli, Pizzeria (WOW Pizza, just like Brooklyn of old) and the muffins we took home to try were stuffed-delicious with or without coffee or tea.

AmericanPressTravelNews-December 26th, Islamorada, FL. Keys. Today we are profiling “Bayside Gourmet of Islamorada.” Barb and I have been dining our way up and down the Keys in our pursuit of the best restaurants in the Keys. “Our new, updated book titled: “The Best Restaurants in the Florida Keys” is well on its way towards completion, and the publishers editors, for final once over, before printing.

We enjoyed the service, the aromas from the grill and bakery and generally and particularly the dishes we tasted and ate.

So what were some of the more than 34-daily offerings and specials that are “to live for”: Well, we tried the pizza, so well created and tasty, almost exactly like we remembered as kids living in New York, from the best pizza throwers ever! Moist and absolutely done to perfection! So we also tried one of the 5-gourmet sandwiches-the Tavernier, best cheese and gourmet meat sandwich in the Keys, and we tried Ahi (tuna filet) flown in from Hawaii-spectacular fat content and flavor was amazing. We finished off our sojourn in this gourmet; at down to earth prices, with true Jersey Shore Cheesecake topped with fresh strawberry slices. Sure they have Key Lime and Choco Mousse pie, but come on now, would we pass on “real” Cheesecake? Eat in or take out and even delivery 305-735-4471 82758 Overseas Hywy. MM 82.7 Islamorada, FL. Keys 3036

Full of bakery, deli and some of the greatest tasting muffins, but most of all nice and friendly staff!
Ahi Tuna dish was extremely delicious!!
Ahi Tuna tartar dish was unbelievable. The tuna is flown in from Hawaii a few times per week. I had vowed never to eat anything that’s raw or nearly raw. But, after tasting and enjoying this dish, I’ve changed my mind to in the affirmative, but only if I trust the restaurant as I did Bayside Gourmet. Also on the table was the Tavernier Sandwich. Fresh mozzarella, imported proscuitto, tomato and fresh basil, drizzled with virgin olive oil and warmed on a fresh focaccia bread. Pizza, ah the pizza, best we have had in the Keys!!!!!!!
Local, regional and national favorites too!
Tavernier Key sandwich, couldn’t put it down!
Plenty of comfy counter and tables and chairs. Lots of great sociality at Bayside Gourmet as we witnessed later on when counter filled for lunch!

Barb enjoying EVERYTHING!

AmericanPressTravelNews.com-Dublin, GA.-November 7th,-Bob & Barb “On the Road Again and feasting again! We headed out from Page House B & B into town by car (although it was in walking distance) and stopped in front of Deano’s Italian Grill. We are familiar with the great tastes that come out of a wood-fired brick oven, and when I saw the massive grill full of various Italian dishes and pizzas being done to perfection in the black-body heat method (cooks through and through quickly and leaves all dishes moist and not dried out) of radiating cooking temperature, perfect for doing dishes perfectly, I sat down-period!

Pizza Bruni with fresh mozzarella and copicola sausage, basil and red onion.

Robert and Jennifer Shaffer owners and operators, both graduates of the Culinary Institute of America in New York, came from Florida to Dublin in 2010, to do their thing! And boy, do they do their thing. Their wait and cooking staff are really committed to this restaurant,  as besides loving the fare, they respect and like the owners as well, I learned this based on me asking a few of them how they like working at Deano’s.

Check Deano’s out at: www.deanos-italian.com

So what did we eat, well, we popped a pizza, a chicken marsala dish, Calamari dish to perfection and then desserts to salivate over. So we were talked into a Crème Brule’ that was fab-plus!img_6218

Pizza Bruni, a delight to the eye and the palate!

Candied walnuts salad with excellent sauce and farm fresh greens! WOW!!

Calamari was touted by our waitress as best in GA. We ate and agreed with her!

An overhead view from their upstairs party room.

Calamari was light floured and flash fried. It came with marinara and cherry pepper sauce. The citrus garden salad was crafted with strawberries, mandarin oranges, grapes candied walnuts and Gorgonzola cheese with balsamic vinaigrette.  The Chicken Marsala was a pan seared chick breast with delicious sauteed mushrooms, in roasted garlic butter and Marsala wine sauce. We finished our meal with Coffee and crème brule.
