Broadway Is Back at The Playhouse on Rodney Square in Delaware

APtravelnews- Wilmington, DEL 4/19/15…Big time Broadway is back at The Playhouse on Rodney Square.  Previously known as the DuPont Theatre, The Playhouse on Rodney Square’s 2015-2016 production schedule has just been unveiled.  It features six high profile Broadway favorites.  The season begins with the ever popular Annie (Dec. 1-6) followed by “Chicago – The Musical” (Jan. 2-17), “Mama Mia!” (Mar. 4-6), “Blue Man Group” (Mar. 17-20), “Forty-Second Street” (Apr. 19-24) and concludes with the riveting “Jersey Boys”
(May 10-15). The Playhouse on Rodney Square is now being managed by the Grand Opera House which is also located in Wilmington less than two blocks from The Playhouse.  Steve Bailey, the Managing Director of Programming at both the Grand and The Playhouse on Rodney Square said “We recognize the Playhouse on Rodney Square as a community asset that we are managing on their (DuPont’s) behalf.”  Executive Director Mark Fields points out that “The former 102-year-old DuPont Theatre is the longest continuously operating Broadway touring house in the country.  It’s also one of the smallest.”  According to Fields, this presents a serious challenge for The Playhouse on Rodney Square.  Therefore the budget for the new season represents a 25 percent increase over last year’s expenditures when DuPont was at the helm and the new theatre leadership has teamed up with Innovation Arts & Entertainment, an innovative Chicago-based company, to ensure the success of their commitment to book the best that Broadway has to offer.  Fields said Adam Epstein, the firm’s head, “…has the connections, and quite frankly, the clout to deliver a Broadway series in Wilmington that you (theatre patrons) want and that we think you deserve.”Season tickets are now on sale at www.theplayhousede.org, by calling 302-888-0200 and at the box office.  Packages range from $140 for a four-show package to $590 for premium weekend seats for all six shows.  Individual show tickets will go on sale in late summer or early fall.In addition to the six Broadway plays, Bailey says the 1,240-seat Playhouse will also serve as an alternate venue for concerts.  If the 1,208-seat Grand is not available, event sponsors now have the option to book at The Playhouse.  Lyn Lewis

This is the legendary singer-songwriter’s fifth appearance at the Ranch in the past five years, and the intimate fireside event is expected to be a sellout.

The Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band’s first album, Legacy, with guest artists that included Ricky Skaggs, Gillian Welch, David Rawlings and Del McCoury, was nominated for a Grammy in 2010. The band’s second album, The Old School, was a 2013 nominee for IBMA Album of the Year. In addition to Rowan on guitar and lead vocals, current band members are banjo player Keith Little and bass player Paul Knight, both of whom have been with the band since its formation; mandolin player Chris Henry, who was featured on The Old School; and fiddle player Blaine Sprouse, the newest addition to the ensemble. The band has appeared in festival venues around the world, including Merlefest, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Grey Fox, Rothbury, Australia’s National Folk Festival and many others, and was featured in January 2015 on the PBS radio show A Prairie Home Companion.

Peter Rowan first burst onto the musical scene in the early 1960’s as a member of Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys and the co-writer, with Monroe, of the bluegrass classic “The Walls of Time.” He later became involved in an eclectic variety of rock, folk and bluegrass projects, including a memorable collaboration with Jerry Garcia, David Grisman, Vassar Clements and John Kahn in the 1970’s bluegrass band Old & In The Way. He embarked on a solo career in the late 1970’s and still tours internationally as a solo singer-songwriter.

Waterfront dining is a given in Punta Gorda. Fish, shrimp, lobster conch salad, pelicans soaring by, being “easy breezy”  residents say in Punta Gorda and throughout the Islands of  Charlotte Harbor area!

APtravelnews-Bob and Barb “on the Road Again” December 19th, Punta Gorda, FL.—Holidays are celebrated family-style in the wonderfully diverse Southwest Florida communities that comprise Charlotte Harbor & the Gulf Islands. This year we were invited to join in on the festivities, and what a terrific experience it was. We enjoyed moments in the “Twilight Zone” of brilliant lighting, driving us back nostalgically by lighted sleigh and sailboat to a time when we had our family all around us during the Holiday Season, but only interrupted by the vagaries of what the future does to all of us!

Of course when you travel, having a quality, enjoyable, laid back yet fun and youthful atmosphere in and around your accommodations, is tantamount to making everything as perfect as it can be. The rooms, the giant Tiki Bar on the Harbor, the meals and the extremely friendly staff at the Four Points  by Sheraton Punta Gorda Harborside  (WWW.fourpointspuntagordaharborside.com) were a precursor to one of the finest adventure weekends Barb and I have experienced in our many visits all around the USA. Stay tuned for more, but go: www.CharlotteHarborTravel.com  for much more information about this spectacular place in time and space!    Again, Stay Tuned, much more of our adventure to come!

Davis Instruments Hits It Out of the Park With Their New SoliCharger SP With Speakers

Using our Samsung Note 2 we watched the charge go up after less that 5-minutes hookup.
Using our Samsung Note 2 we watched the charge go up after less that 5-minutes hookup.

APtravelnews– American Press Travel News—July 26th, Goose Holler’ Farms, Crossville, TN. –Davis Instruments Corporation has come out with another extremely usable and interesting, innovative product.

This new SOL_LIGHT™, SoliCharger-SP™   that we have had to try and test is right-on as described here. The solar charger is married to High Output Speakers in a rugged carrying case, all in one! The charger can charge any iPhone, iPod, MP3 player, cell phone, digital camera. We tested the unit attached to our Samsung Note 2, our lap top computer, our grand kids Play station and Barbs iPod. Not only were they being charged nicely, but we enjoyed a rich (surprisingly clear and adjustable voluminous) sound from the built-in speakers. There is a tiny purple light that shows how the unit is charging and always ready to offer that charge to the above named electronics. The unit has a large capacity internal battery that the photovoltaic built-in panel charges anytime sunlight strikes it.

The unit is wonderfully compact and good looking and there are connective plugs and wires that fit virtually any small electronic buss plugs. The adapters are for 32 pin Apple, USB, USB Mini, and USB Micro. The specs are: a 5.5 volt, 70 milliamp solar panel. The internal battery is a 2000 milliamp lithium-ion battery. The DC Input is 5-6 volt, 500 milliamp and the output is 300-500 milliamp. The speakers are two 3 watt amplified units.

We love this unit and as travel writers, we are always using our laptop and other electronics on the go. So we have decided to keep it and even buy another! Go: www.davisnet.com  for more information on this solidly built unit!

A great idea! Sound and charger in this SoliCharger SP with speakers is rock solid great!
