Tail Gators Brews & Grill

American Press Travel News–Tail Gators Brews & Grill—January 22, Bob and Barb “On The Road Again”–Since their establishment in 2014, Tail Gators food and cocktail emporium (now two locations in Port St Lucie) is delivering a great lunch and dinner experience to the Treasure Coast community.

Barb and I decided to dine there for lunch, and we were not disappointed. From the Mahi (dolphin fish) plate, to a rack of ribs and an appetizer of hot wings, we totally enjoyed every bite of Tail Gators offerings (yes, we took home those leftovers).

We were 1st  introduced to Gators by the Port St Lucie Fishing Club, many of their members attend a Wednesday, music bingo dinner event. We were invited by Frank, the Membership director, and have since attended this fun event when we are in town. Gators runs different fun specialty events each night, one night Poker and Tacos, another, Karaoke Trivia, and kids under 12-eat free, and the aforementioned Musical Bingo, a regular Bingo and dollar wing night too! The restaurant can seat a large clientele, so no one is too close and space is quite open.  Ashley, the G.M. at Gators is very proud of position at Gators and said just a year before, she was a waitress and worked up to management. She was very accommodating!

The ribs: Well, they were terrific, properly sauced, not drowned and the Cole slaw dish was emptied, that’s how good and tasty. The Mahi and fries were a meal big enough for two. No fishy smell or taste, taters were fried just right, and yes, the same coleslaw. Wings and drums, celery and blue cheese-a fine appetizer, that could have been a lunch on their own. The prices are quite moderate for the amount of food and its tasty quality. They do catering, and provide daily delivery. From Kings Isle you can be at a Gators in 10-minutes, one is on Peacock and the other is on Port St Lucie, Blvd. Give a call at: 772-879-2700 and over at Court Yard Circle at Peacock:772-446-9333.

An Excerpt from The Book: “A Fishing History of the Keys.”

“A Florida Keys Fishy History of the Denizens of The Deep”

American Press Travel News–March 1st, The following is a short excerpt from Bob’s book: “A History of Fishing in the Florida Keys.” –From all corners of the earth, tourist visitors make pilgrimages to the Florida Keys to fish, and it’s no wonder, with more than 600 fish varieties in Florida waters, most of which are caught in the waters between Miami and the 150-miles down to Key West. And according to the writings of Zane Grey, a fabulous outdoor writer, and world famous angler, the waters between Indian Key and Bahia Honda Harbor were the very best in the world (as he wrote in the 1920’s). So, along with locals, and Americans from all over the U.S.A. who come to duel with offshore fish such as swordfish, marlin, sailfish, mackerel, tuna, wahoo, dolphin fish (Mahi Mahi), and a large assortment of other deep -sea fishes, the Keys is most noted for, it stands to reason that the real magnet drawing all to these boney islands, are these underwater finned residents of the Keys! Ask anyone about the Florida Keys, most responses would be about fishing, Key Lime pie-sort of the “apple pie & mom” of South Florida’s special nature, is what is thought of first.
Inshore, there is an entire hierarchy of fish-royalty, from the bonefish, tarpon, permit, the triage of the perfecta, to the snook, seatrout, red drum, and mangrove snapper, that today, as in the past hundred years, attract anglers to both shore, and canoe-fish as well as hiring hundreds of fishing guides and their skiffs, in pursuit of these fish for picture-trophy, and the plate as well. Today, with 43-bridges that connect each of the Keys Islands bridge fishing is also a great draw for anglers without boats, to bring their families and friends to go out to sea without ever getting their sneakers wet and still catch fish too!

Wahoo’s At Whale Harbor Marina “Rocks” With Great Foods and Bar-Friendliness

The Charter Boat Fleet at Whale Harbor! Note the wooden slats upper right. The great bar and grill of Wahoo’s is housed there!

AmericanPresstravelNews-Jan.16th, Bob and Barb “On The Road Again” at Whale Harbor Marina (home of the best fishing fleet in the Keys) and Wahoo’s Bar and Grill. When we visit a restaurant, lounge, bar and grill, cafe, we ask for one thing: are their offerings consistently good, at least good! Well, happily we have found over a period of times that Wahoo’s fare is better than “good” its actually “great!”  WE went for a surf and turf last night, a hot grilled Mahi (dolphin fish) over a melange of fresh fruits including mango, honey dew, cantaloupe, grapes, berries-never had fish this way and it was outstandingly deightful and also we felt we were eating great, but also very healthy (no sugary dressings necessary). When we saw Surf and Turf with Churasco Steak on the menu, we opted for this as our second entree’. The Florida lobster tail was big enough to share and it tasted terrific. I am very fussy about my “tail” it’s got to be firm, tasty and with all the right flavors. The steak was grilled medium with a crisp edge-WOW! So with our cool Key Lime Pina Colada was special with graham cracker edged glass instead of salt or sugar. Then it was time for dessert. Jody the very nice Director of food and drink recommended Key Lime Pie there way! So we dug into a portion of this iconic Keys offering. He was right, excellent pie and authentic. Whale Harbor is located at 83413 Overseas Hwy. Islamorada FL. 33036 (305)-664-9888 www.wahoosbarandgrill.com

No fish or any other sauces or dressings necessary. Fresh is key! This was outstanding for anyone who wants to eat happy and healthy too!
Surf and Turf extraordinary! I don’t ooze great lightly. This was a fabulous meal!
We opt for zero alcohol in our business drinks, we are on the road and do not drink a drop when we know we will be driving a foot or a mile!
Note Wahoo written in syrup!
Yes, it was nightime! My new friends from Delaware at fiberglass photo tiger shark!

Lake Okeechobee residents are making daily and nightly pilgrimages for their great seafood fare!

APtravelnews-November 19th, Bob & Barb at Lake Okeechobee, FL.-Great fish and seafood restaurants are hard to find all across America, for sure there are a few in each state and city, but compared to burgers, chicken houses,  Chinese and Japanese Sushi places, sub shops and cafés, they are far and few between.  Well, here comes The Tin Fish and today from California through the Midwest to Florida there are excellent foods of the sea available at quite moderate prices, but offering top of the line foods. Probably no where else can you order special salmon, Whitefish, Cod Tacos, grilled shrimp, Lobster Bisque and so many other dishes for so little “green backs.”

Open and bright, Tin Fish Restaurants are a model of consistently offering fresh and tasty offerings.

Their newest location is in Sarasota, Florida and after opening up last year in Lake Okeechobee area, the restaurant has wooed locals and tourists alike and drew Barbara and I for a visit yesterday. Barb much enjoyed her order of corn & shrimp chowder that I also tried as she tried my fresh clam chowder. Good is not the word for them. Great is a better word! My luncheon platter included grilled, firm and tasty shrimp and a filet of Mahi Mahi as this deep ocean fish is called in Hawaii and Dolphin Fish as it is called in the Florida Keys! A special blend “spicy (but not too) cole slaw complimented my dish as it did Barbs Salmon plate. Promise there were no leftovers and we were very well satisfied with the taste and freshness of our “foods from the sea.” We did try a special dessert well worth the wait after dinner as a topper-off of our meals. Cinnamon Ice Cream and Carrot Cake-Wowser!!
