Wahoo’s At Whale Harbor Marina “Rocks” With Great Foods and Bar-Friendliness

The Charter Boat Fleet at Whale Harbor! Note the wooden slats upper right. The great bar and grill of Wahoo’s is housed there!

AmericanPresstravelNews-Jan.16th, Bob and Barb “On The Road Again” at Whale Harbor Marina (home of the best fishing fleet in the Keys) and Wahoo’s Bar and Grill. When we visit a restaurant, lounge, bar and grill, cafe, we ask for one thing: are their offerings consistently good, at least good! Well, happily we have found over a period of times that Wahoo’s fare is better than “good” its actually “great!”  WE went for a surf and turf last night, a hot grilled Mahi (dolphin fish) over a melange of fresh fruits including mango, honey dew, cantaloupe, grapes, berries-never had fish this way and it was outstandingly deightful and also we felt we were eating great, but also very healthy (no sugary dressings necessary). When we saw Surf and Turf with Churasco Steak on the menu, we opted for this as our second entree’. The Florida lobster tail was big enough to share and it tasted terrific. I am very fussy about my “tail” it’s got to be firm, tasty and with all the right flavors. The steak was grilled medium with a crisp edge-WOW! So with our cool Key Lime Pina Colada was special with graham cracker edged glass instead of salt or sugar. Then it was time for dessert. Jody the very nice Director of food and drink recommended Key Lime Pie there way! So we dug into a portion of this iconic Keys offering. He was right, excellent pie and authentic. No fish or any other sauces or dressings necessary. Fresh is key! This was outstanding for anyone who wants to eat happy and healthy too!
Surf and Turf extraordinary! I don’t ooze great lightly. This was a fabulous meal!
We opt for zero alcohol in our business drinks, we are on the road and do not drink a drop when we know we will be driving a foot or a mile!
Note Wahoo written in syrup!
Yes, it was nightime! My new friends from Delaware at fiberglass photo tiger shark!

Green Turtle Restaurant- An Iconic Stopover on the Highway that Goes Out to Sea!

Turtle Stew, fine wines and Barb is about in heaven at the Green Turtle.
Farmed Snapping Turtle in a tomato based stew-like soup. The meat was just like true saltwater turtle soup now off all markets due to sea turtles being a protected animal.

The taste of this bread pudding was exceptional, changed daily, the staff continues to keep this dish different and surprisingly excellent.
A real slice of Key Lime Pie set in a Macadamia nut crust. Frankly, superb.

APressTravelNews-December 17th,-Green Turtle Restaurant, Islamorada, FL Keys. So now we have come to one of the most historical locations and restaurants in the Upper Keys for dinner. The Green Turtle Inn for decades, has been an iconic spot to stop along the Highway ‘that goes out to sea”- Overseas Highway, U.S. 1 in Islamorada, FL. Early on in Keys history, sea turtle was served in most restaurants in the Keys. WithTurtles today, being on the Federal Endangered Species list, “today’s Green Turtle Inn perfects authentic Florida Keys style cuisine, by combining the charm of the Keys laid back way of life with epicurean flair.” Fusion cuisine at its best can be found here. Tradition meets innovation in their menu offerings. The passion of their owners and staff is palpable when any diner spends just a few moments after being seated, by the enthusiasm and knowledge-ability of their hosts and wait staff. Their varied menu can certainly pique the interest of any gastrophile, with offerings, unlike most of the usual food emporiums, that serve the meats and seafood’s common in most restaurants, good bad and ugly. We were offered farm raised freshwater snapper turtle chowder (excellent) and a chunky lobster- tail, Corn-dog that was skewered, then butter-poached and battered, fried and topped with Thai Chile Sauce. Without a doubt as tasty as it gets! We finished our meal with coffee that tasted like the best coffee possible, a bread pudding, that nary a morsel was left, including the vanilla ice cream dipped up to the very last drop (best bread pudding ever, promise) and the Key Lime Pie was bedded in a Macadamia crust with fresh, delicious whipped cream-really way too good to not dream about. Take a look at their menu online-we plan on going back and raiding their menu, the offering are so luscious sounding. The Green Turtle is located 81219 Overseas Hywy. The Fish House Restaurant & Seafood Market; Fresh, Fresh & Tasty

Barb meets Captain Hook! The restaurants greeter-few words, mighty message!

AmericanPressTravelNews-December 17th, Key Largo, FL.-Bob and Barb, “On The Road Again.” In our very difficult work of dining our way down the Keys for our updated book: “Best Restaurants in the Florida Keys” we would have been quite remiss in not including The Fish House Restaurant & Seafood Market. After meeting our hosts, owner C.J. Berwick and Manager Michelle Kosiek we settled in to share and taste their excellent cuisine. We began with one of their house specialties; Matecumbe Yellowtail Snapper in a terrific sauce of capers and herbed rice. Absolutely superb fish dish! We then dove into a Shrimp & Scallops Key Lime with rice. Problem we had was not over-eating, so some of it came home for next days luncheon-great the first day, superb even the second as juices marinated in. Samuel Ornelas, their chef for the past 27-years flashed a couple of fillets at us to remind us how fresh and firm all the fish, just out of the ocean looked after filleting. We had a Pina Colada and a Margarita, with our meals and then finished everything off with homemade coconut ice cream served in what else, but a coconut half.  This is a place in time and space in the Keys you just have to try yourself. So many dishes, so little time. It would take a year of eating every day to exhaust the menu and possible specials they will offer you. Check them out at MM102.4 Oceanside 102401 Overseas Highway, Key Largo, FL www.fishhouse.com— they are open 7-days per week from 11:30 am for lunch and and at 4:00 pm on for dinner. Give a call too if you like at 305-451-HOOK (4665) You can also email them at the [email protected]
