APtravelnews-September 11th, Walnut Cove Farm–Waynesville, North Carolina–Agri-tourism is very much alive and well at Walnut Cove Farm. Joseph and Tara Cathey have worked hard and smart turning one acre of land in Waynesville, NC and 3-acres in Bethel into a wonderfully productive garden and growing enterprise. Majic Heirloom Tomatoes, all kinds of greens and other field and tree fruits and veggies attract people from all walks of life to farm to table suppers often accompanied by Blue Grass music where guests as we did actually watch the process of grinding and pressing fresh apples into the most delicious apple cider straight from the press. While there, we enjoyed silver dollar sized little tomato pies (I ate 10 of them, beyond “good”) drank two glasses of cider and felt like Superman- the apples and tomatoes boosted my “WOW” factor by at least 10 (at least Barb and I felt like it did) and these folks made you genuinely feel as welcome as family. We loved this place. Besides the dinners they provide to the public they also supply restaurants and other businesses in and around Waynesville with produce for their uses in healthy, creative dishes too! Do we recommend going out of your way to visit these fine folks and enjoy a farm to table dinner? Oh, yes!!!!

Walnut Cove Farm  – Owned by Joseph and Tara Cathey. Farm to table dinners and suppliers from June thru October. 575 Walnut Cove Road, Waynesville, NC (828) 400-0115.

AmericanPressTravelNews-June 8th, Sparta, TN.–Barb and I love country auctions and as we have seen so does everyone else. The entire farm with more than 20-gorgeous acres, several tractors, a pickup truck from the late 1950’s in primo shape, saddles, tools, giant drills, all manner of farm implements and a collection of service station signs collected by the owner, now wanting to move to town as his age and health issues have crept up on him. The action begins as it did this time at precisely the time that is listed on the auction flyer. It needs to be on time and professional auctioneers know it if they are to be successful. Simpsons Auction Group is successful and draw a big crowd of locals, tourists, snowbirds with fun-farms and all manner of collectors, too. There was barbecue, ices (was pretty warm and lots of ice with color and sugar sold) and a nice festive, fun attitude prevailed. Some buyers were anxious, having driven in some cases for 100-miles more or less to bid on an old wood burning stove, a tractor, boxes of tools and what-nots, etc. We had fun, I bought a few wood working tools, a jack for all trades and a few old railroad items that I collect and decorate my barn with, until I too will be forced to give up my collectibles, someday too!! I only hope folks have as much fun as I did collecting as I do and did!!!P1070089

A Bed and Breakfast, or Family Compound-This is The Place!

APtravelnews–June 24th,-Homestead, Crossville, TN.-If you are looking to change your life, consider the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee. The weather with the 2,000 elevation is cooler in the summer. This property is located in the Historic Homestead area. This is a great property. Can be used as income property, family compound or turn it back to B & B. There is no restrictive zoning. Great location for an upscale restaurant. Small barn on property would also help make this a nice family farm.

The main home is a former bed and breakfast. “We loved the business but had to close it due to health issues about 10 years ago.” This home is listed on the National Register – only 17 listed in the State of Tennessee. Includes a 4700 sq. ft 5 bedroom 6 bath home (2 of bedrooms and baths are in separate apartments) plus a 1 bedroom home (remodeled from another barn) and an additional home. Crossville has been listed on the best places to retire and is called the “Golf Capital Of Tennessee”. It is a great tourist destination loaded with antique shops, flea markets, country fairs, etc.

The historic Bed and Breakfast can again be completely operational. The last few years, a new kitchen was installed. The cabinets are high end kraft-made cabinets, has commercial wiring that meets requirements for opening a restaurant. According to the owners;  “Last year we changed out the carpet for tile in the downstairs along with new windows. 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, a dining room that seats 22, 3 (2 are in separate apartments) kitchens plus prep kitchen, etc. Also included in this sale is a 1 bedroom, 2 bath barn/carriage home with porch. 1600 sq ft 3 – bedroom 2 bath home with garage. The carriage home 1 bedroom, bath, living room, kitchen and large wrap-a-round screen porch. Additionally, there is a barn, workshop and another garage, two gazebos, several decks and porches and a million dollar, water-feature landscaped entrance. Located on beautiful landscaped 6.5 acres. This price is well below the appraised value. Contact [email protected]   Note* These retired folks are friends. We are trying to assist so they can retire elsewhere near their children!
