Miraglias Italian Restaurant & Pizza

American Press Travel News–March 28th–Bob and Barb On the Road Again dining out, this time at Miraglias Italian Restaurant & Pizza. About every town and city have multiple Italian restaurants. This food spot in Port St Lucie, FL has a secret weapon. Owner Joe knows how to created amazing entree’s, terrific pizzas, garlic rolls to dream about. Joe has more than three decades of experience, that translates to just the right recipes for all the ingredients that make up his tasty offerings. We enjoyed a delicious Antipasto, a Zuppa Di Pesce with firm, fresh shrimp, mussels, clams & Calamari. We also tasted, and took home a special Veal Francese with Linguine. The sauce makes almost all Italian dishes, Joe has the sauce down perfect for anyone’s taste buds. Oh, and those aforementioned rolls or garlic knots. They were a problem; we couldn’t stop eating them.  Being a professional restaurant and food writer, with 5-books on all manner of continental and tropical Islands cuisine, and a writer who has penned, and photographed and “manged” much of the worlds specialty dishes’, over 55-years, I know what I’m talking about. Miraglias is special! Located over at 5489 St. James Blvd near the Publics food store, you can call them to dine in or take out 772-244-2292.

Ristorante Corleone Italian Steakhouse and Seafood

Barb in waiting after ordering our meals at Ristorante Corleone.
Fresh made squid frito’s. Not frozen Cisco deliveries.

American Press Travel News-Bob and Barb-“On the Road Again”–May 5th, 2021—This time. stopping at Ristorante Corleone Italian Steakhouse and Seafood. We met Chef and Owner Luca Fontanarosa. He was born and raised in Catania, Sicily (Italy) We ate very well, on delicious fruits of the sea at this Island in PSL.

We noticed the great large portioned dishes at the diners tables, as we entered. We whet our appetite with crab cakes (yes, just like in Italy, too) fried Calamari, with a dipping sauce extraordinary, and a bottle of Pellegrino, next to very tasty garlic breads. Next came our main dishes. Barb wanted salmon in butter and lemon sauce, it was such a big portion, that we ate it again for lunch, the next day. It came with a great al dente spaghetti side dish. I had a favorite, but done even better than I remembered “Zuppa Di Pesce”, a seafood stew for those that don’t know “Zuppe.” clams, shrimp, mussels, were simmered in a sauce that truly showed the chefs understanding of great flavors. We topped off this fine meal with Cappuccino coffee’s, Tiramisu Ceciliani, and Cannoli’s.  This meal was best ever for Italian cuisine on the Treasure Coast. The room is not gigantic, its nice, and almost intimate, so reservations would be smart.  Call (772)-323-0355. Don’t fret, there is plenty of free parking, and easy access to 8621 S. Federal Hwy. Port St Lucie. On a scale of 1-10, we offer an 11.

Enrico’s Pizza, A Whole Lot More Than Pie

American Press Travel News-Sept 28th, Islamorada, FL Keys–Bob n Barb “On the Road Again” Enrico’s New York Style Pizzeria. Growing up in Brooklyn, many of my memories I recall today were the great Kosher Pickles, corned beef sandwiches, hot dogs and sauerkraut, and great garlic pizza dripping with olive oil and chewy, gooey mozzarella. With a Root beer float, I always was delighted and happiest in my Williamsburg apartment near the Brooklyn Bridge. So fast forward several decades later, here I am in Islamorada, and up pops Enrico’s Pizza at MM 88.8. After meeting and getting to know Laurenzo (Larry) Calvano, owner/operator and Master Pizziolo of Enrico’s, and Dominic Congeni, Chef, I felt right at home and knew Italian fare here was going to be great. I/we were not disappointed. My son Dave, Director of Emergency Management at Homestead Air Force Base decided to join us. He now can tell his associates where they can get a good meal down in the Keys near his home in Islamorada.  Out came the pizza, out came the clams oreganato with linguine, the shrimp risotto too! I asked Larry about his experiences so far, since Enrico’s just opened in the past two week. Larry told me that “we wanted to be that neighborhood place and feel, and we are being slammed as a Keys great local Pizzeria. The whole vibe is fabulous, and its all about family, Italian food is all about family mangia, together with love and happiness.” We felt it! We’ll be back! Give a call, say hello, and be prepared to be very happy at Enrico’s New York Style Pizzeria with Italian dish specialties, everyone loves if they are authentic. This place is authentic!! Give a call or just stop in. 305-852-2200
