APtravelnews–Bob and Barb “On The Road Again”- January 14th, Memphis, TN.-Katie Mitchell Bass Pro Shops Communications Manager let us know that David Hagel will lead team of more than 600 at the Pyramid—one of Bass Pro Shops largest investments to date.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — David Hagel has been named store manager for the new Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid store, which opens May 1 in Memphis, Tennessee.  Hagel has been the store manager for the Bass Pro Shops Sportsman’s Warehouse store located on Macon Road in Memphis for the past 12 years.

“Growing up in this area, I know that residents and visitors alike have dreamed of standing at the top of the Memphis Pyramid,” said Hagel.  “I am absolutely thrilled to be part of the team making this dream come true.”

Johnny Morris, founder of Bass Pro Shops, has said the Bass Pro Shops Pyramid store is “one of the most dynamic, immersive retail destination stores in the world.”  At 535,000 square feet, it will be one of the largest retail stores in the world under one roof, and one of the company’s largest investments to date.

In addition to vast assortments of outdoor gear, the new mega store will feature many diverse, unique features including an interactive national Waterfowling Heritage Center in partnership with Ducks Unlimited; the popular Uncle Buck’s Fishbowl and Grill; Big Cypress Lodge—a 100-room grand hotel; 600,000 gallons of water features; a cypress swamp with 100-foot-tall trees; and the largest free-standing elevator in America—25 stories and open all four sides.

“For the first time, the public will be able to travel up 300 feet to the apex of the Pyramid, stand on cantilevering glass-floored outdoor observation decks, and take in sprawling riverfront views,” said Hagel.  “It’s the little things done right that add up to big rewards and excitement.”

Hagel went on to say that the Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid store will offer fishing, boating, camping, hiking, and hunting gear, and the largest assortment of waterfowl and related hunting equipment ever assembled.

Fishing with the Kingfisher Fleet in Punta Gorda Was a Highlight of Our Trip!

Aptravelnews-January 7th, Indianapolis, Indiana–Its 20-below wind chill factor and Barb and I are getting ready to set up a Click-It Hot Use It Cold booth at the Convention Center. Its so cold that the pipes froze at our rental house our team is holed up at . But, we have a great fireplace, electric is still on and we had a hardy breakfast. 6-inches of snow outdoors and we have thought back to our recent trip to Punta Gorda, FL and our fishing day with Kingfisher Fleet. Oh, how we wish we could head back to 80 degrees again!

Looks a bit rough, but it wasn't this time! Just nature turbo-charged at its best!

Kingfisher Fleet Showed Us Where they Live-Offshore for Grouper, Snapper and a Dozen Other Species

Offshore with Kingfisher Fleet and mate, Matt holds one of the 15-grouper caught and released by Barb!
Barb offshore with Kingfisher Fleet and mate, Matt holds one of the 15-grouper caught and released by Barb!

APtravelnews-Dec. 20th, Punta Gorda, FL.-Offshore in the Gulf of Mexico–It was a laid back day and the seas were laid down too! Mostly calm with a 3-foot following sea as we headed out from Port Charlotte towards where concentrations of ground fish held among rocks and bottom cover. Our quest: catch em up and release the ones out of season (grouper) but take some porgies and Key West large grunt and a snapper or two for dinner for our group. Successful by end of day, yes and yes! The Captain and Mate performed their jobs perfectly! The Captain found the fish, the mate assisted us all in uhooking, baiting the hook with shrimp and cut fish, we Barb, yours truly and Bob Nesoff, writer from New Jersey pulled on some fiesty fins that of course in no way wanted to visit with us, topside. We got a workout, pulling and reeling them in. Yes, it was great fun for us all! None of the fish that shouldn’t have been kept were and they all scampered back to their bottom homes with only a tiny hole in their lips, much less damage than a gal or guy with a piercing in their tongue, lip or elsewhere, unmentionable! Take a fishing trip or excursion with the King Fisher Fleet. For info.: www.kingfisherfleet.com located at the Marina at Fishermen’s Village on Punta Gorda. Stay tuned-next up will be our fabulous adventure at the 90-thousand acre, Babcock Wilderness!

A Remora fish. It has a suction-cup head and it sticks by "vacuum" to larger fish and travel with their hosts picking off the crumbs of the larger fishes (sharks, marlin, etc.) meals. A very interesting specialized fish!
