Columbia TN. A Real City, With a Smalltown, More Cozy Vibe. Part 1: Blythewood Inn Our Host B & B

American Press Travel News–July 19th–Columbia, TN.–Bob and Barb-“On the Road Again”–“Stopping to Smell the Roses” at the Blythewood Inn Historic Bed & Breakfast. Probably in all our visitations and stayovers (more than 150 at last count) none were more historic and relaxing than the Blythewood Inn. This was truly an antebellum mansion, upgraded to modernity, but decorated and outfitted in furnishings and decor of a period now viewed in pastel colors and thoughts. Another time period when things were so much less complicated and stressful.  Barb and I love visiting all manner of new areas in America, and this time our choice was a visit to Columbia, TN. The Innkeeper, Dinah Vire moved to Columbia, TN. in 1989 with her family. She and her husband Gordon purchased the house in 1994 to be used as a medical office. Gordon Vires practice was in the house until 2007, when Gordon became ill. After his passing, Dinah and the family decided to transform the building back to a home, and open Blythewood Inn Bed & Breakfast.  Go: www.BlythewoodinnBB.com      This is part 1 of 2 parts—- just wait until you see the amazing dishes you can enjoy in the great restaurants of Columbia!!

Innkeeper,Dinah Vire was an amazing lady. She loves the history of her Inn and is truly a lady that goes all out for her guests who come as customers and leave as welcomed friends.
Spoiler alert! Our room during our stay at the Blythewood Inn. It was like living in the lap of luxury, surrounded by the flavor of the past!
Probably the most spectacular B&B dining room ever!! Old world charm, with AC too!!

A Visit To The Duke Mansion; A Charlotte, NC Historic Inn & Meeting Place

Picking up the key to our suite!
Picking up the key to our suite!

AMERICAN PRESS TRAVEL NEWS  Charlotte, N.C.-Barb and I always like to experience the fine mom and pop B&B’s, resorts and middle of the road hotels and motels across America. However, sometimes we enjoy visiting the finest upscale, restored hundred year old homes and older. The architecture and landscaping of a different time, and mind-set, be they diminutive, or sprawling (The Duke Mansion is 32,000 Square feet, nearly a full acre of home) of the highly successful business magnates (now gone to bed in history) of the ilk of Guggenheim, Rockefeller, Loews, to name a few, that were able to afford the utmost in real estate and grandiose homes, now turned into guest accommodations. The Duke Mansion is such a place in time and space. With 14- original acres back in 1915 and today, gardens of roses and flora mirroring the past gardens, rooms with soaring ceilings, and huge windows with brass hardware of delightful industrial Revolution, art era design, juxtaposed near today’s comfortable beds and modern bath facilities-and at a price per day and evening, reasonable enough for any special occasion and exclusive visit.

We pulled into the curved driveway with easy parking, stopped for a picture of Mr. Duke’s original shooting fountain (Duke of Duke Power fame, said his Rolls Royce, Daughter Doris and his fountain was what he was most proud of) and were ensconced, thanks to the delightful concierge into a charming room with chocolates on the bed and homemade cookies and beverages just outside our door. After relaxing and looking over the grounds (So much history, so little time!)  We headed for a highly recommended restaurant; Five Church for dinner! What a delightful meal awaited us after the Valet did the parking: Maine Lobster for Barbara, Scallops, and their 60-second New York Strip for us too (we share everything, and compare notes and tastes). Great service by Brian, our wait guy! We tried shrimp flat bread for appetizer and wonderful tomato bisque! Everything was “multi belle.” www.5church.com Entrance at 5th Street and Church St. 704-919-1322.

Page House Bed & Breakfast A Monument to Anyones Great Lodging Experiences

img_6201AmericanPressTravelNews.com Nov. 7th,Dublin, GA.–“Bob and Barb on the Road Again” and “Stopping to Smell the Roses”, and visit for awhile!–We stopped for a couple of nights to enjoy a real quality B&B and we were not even slightly disappointed staying at the really magnificent Page House. We first met Mono working the leaves off the driveway, just after pulling into a true early American Estate sized home from a different era and century with giant pillars and the look of what the real White House in D.C. must have looked like before the many gates and fences, additions and subtractions. This was a true Antebellum Southern home only remodeled to modernize the needs of casual tourists in all modern ways possible, but yet totally in keeping with the themes and decor of a quieter, more pastel time in American History. WE LOVED IT! We have learned that the owners make or break a B & B. Mono and JoAnn were fabulous, caring hosts and mighty fine chefs as well. This place as they say in GA. is   “The Gem of the Emerald City.” www.pagehousebb.com  ph and fax: (478) 275-4551

Yes, there are great restaurants in Dublin. See additional posts for Company Supply Rotisserie Bistro and Deano’s Italian Grille Brick Oven favorites!!!!
