Rosati’s Pizza and Mission Barbeque Just Great For Our FL. Neighborhood

American Press Travel News–December 18th, Port St Lucie, FL. Bob and Barb “On the Road Again”–We often take for granted how many businesses are in walking distance to the front gate of our Florida home. Upon our return from an extended time at our TN farm,  we marveled at how many new food spots opened since we had left last April. Here’s just two of several new ones we just tried:
When Rosati’s opened last July, they were expanding their pizza business from Wisconsin to Florida, from their corporate headquarters in Chicago, into Port St Lucie, West.  They are a great spot to get great hand-thrown dough pizzas delivered, or that can be picked up anytime day or night.
The business offers great salads, pasta and pizza as carry out, but there is some seating inside and outside as well. My favorite pizza is adorned with real garlic, olives and mushrooms, on a thin-crust with some crispy bubbles from the bake. When I see round mounds of dough ready to be rolled out, spun and thrown, I know the place is keeping it “real.”
If you just crave a slice and a soda, its $5-bucks. We tried both a Chicago style thick crust cheese and delicious Italian chunky pizza sauce. Both the thin and the thick variety were quite good-we’ll go back or call for more next week. Rosati’s motto is “Keeping It Real Since 1964.” They also provide catering services and they are located just across from our gate the opposite end of Dunkin Donuts. 772-340-0999.

Mission Barbeque, on our side of Port St Lucie Blvd., on restaurant row, is a unique smoked-meat BBQ. Every day at 12-PM all employees and guests stand, hold their hands over their hearts and sing the National Anthem. Barb and I enjoyed seeing youngsters joining in with their parents and the employee’s seemed quite proud of their work place and support of our troops and our great nation. Just outside, there is a large Army truck, outdoor seating and plenty of parking. They make their 10-sauces daily and we enjoyed the smoked brisket, ribs, chicken and turkey, as well as their tasty side dishes, too. Get on line, pick your favorites, take a cup for soft drinks and be prepared to not go home hungry. We liked the place. and as we noticed at the lunchtime filled tables, so do many others in Port St Lucie. Stop in for a sample taste if you like. Located in Port St Lucie, West on St. Lucie West Blvd, just down from a Publics.

Dillsboro, N.C., And a River Runs Through It! Note* First Installment of our 4-day Sojourn

Best Best Western we ever stayed at. Fly fishing out the back door, hot breakfasts, very friendly and helpful staff, and comfortable beds!
At Haywards Barbeque we truly pigged out on great barbecue. Ribs, smoked brisket, and side dishes that only fit a great N.C. barbecue.

American Press Travel News-April 21st, Dillsboro, N.C.-Bob and Barb “On The Road Again.” A small town with character, and a crossroads to so many places, yet Dillsboro and adjoining town of Silva, has plenty for the adventurous, and the laid back rocker folks too!

What a layout of great barbeque; Ribs, smoked brisket, beans, tater salad, Cole slaw, greens, chopped pork, sausage-garlic bread-WOW!
Barb and I loved living just off the Tuskegee river. Quite peaceful eating the Best Western hot breakfast overlooking this great trout river.
Gordon is going fishing! Gordon works at Silva’s fly fishing shop. He’s locked and ready for a mountain stream or for the rivers that run directly through Silva and Dillsboro.

Over at Kostas in town, we chowed on great Greek fish and Barbs favorite Italian dish, Chicken parm with al dente’ spaghetti. Fabulous food for my fabulous lady, and the laid-back, as well.

Cataloochee Guest Ranch, Maggie Valley- A Mountain Afar, But Close To So Many Hearts

American Press Travel News- June 27th,-Maggie Valley, Haywood County, North CarolinaCataloochee Guest Ranch was opened in 1934 by Mr. Tom and Miss Judy Alexander. It was  moved to its present location in 1938. The Ranch is still run by the third generation descendants of Mr. Tom and Miss Judy. As their brochure rightly proclaims “The Ranch is “where the march of time slows down to a walk.”  the high mountains here really do have deep roots! Barb and I relaxed, enjoyed country buffet cookouts for dinner of steaks and taters along with all the country fixin’s you’d also love. We also sampled their country breakfast which included their wonderful homemade syrups, jams and biscuits. that you will savor in your mouth and on your mind for a very long time.

This is a wonderful place for your whole family. We watched a small boy catch his first fish in their stocked pond, which the ranch then cooked for his dinner. They have all sorts of planned activities for children as well for adults.  There are so many outdoor recreational opportunities in and around this 5000 foot elevation, cool, over 1000 acre ranch. We hiked, found and identified numerous edible mushrooms, plants and trees with a professional field guide. Their garden, becomes your garden each and every meal! Every day you can take take trail rides. When you arrive you feel like you are a member of their family with their rich local heritage. Every night their local admiring neighbors, were scheduled to come and meet the guests. We listened to local musicians and were even able to pet a real friendly wolf.

Perhaps due to the history of several generations of the Tom and Judy Alexander family, there was a feeling here that we were home, really at home again! It’s really hard to say just how comfortable we were at this ranch. It was very hard to leave and we actually stayed a bit longer than usual before we left the cool mountain air, the friendliness of our hosts and the truly serene nature of this fine resort. So, I guess one way to say it was, we had a very hard time saying goodbye!

Also, we will review so many fine restaurants in the coming days on aptravelnews.com.  We will be posting these and many more opportunities for visitors in the next day or so.   We took part in visiting the Cataloochee Valley area full of transplanted elk. The bulls were bugling their dominancy over their herd of cows-quite a display! The people we met, the dinner with the Mayor of Waynesville and his wife, the fine other folks we learned so much about them and from them, their Agri-tourism lifestyle and businesses offerings, and their goals, as well as their already fruitful successes will be portrayed as well.
