Food Glorious Food, Travel Writers “Roll” on Their Stomachs

Golden Girls Restaurant in Clinton famous for “Broasted Chicken.”
Our deck overlooking Norris Lake at Pinnacle Point. What a view!
Deans Restaurant & Bakery in Oak Ridge. Ribs, steaks, chickens.

AmericanPressTravelNews-May 20th,-Bob & Barb “On the Road Again”-Anderson County, Clinton, & Oak Ridge, TN.-Besides enjoying a great condo experience on Norris Lake, at Pinnacle Point with “Vacations on the Water” , we also had to eat didn’t we? So Our first day in Clinton we we headed for dinner at Golden Girls Restaurant (Barbs favorite sitcom)  with the rooster outside. Great veggies, chopped steak with grilled onions the way we like them and plenty of good rolls, as opposed to nasty rolls just out of the micro. Before dinner I fished the morning with Guide Scott Manning described in a previous post as very professional and a great big catfish finder. Then it was home to lunch at Hoskins 1940’s Soda Fountain (as previously reported in last weeks post) for a malted and a tuna sandwich, um, um good. A bit later we visited the Appalachian Arts and Crafts Center. We love crafts; talented people who learned by trial and error to make all manner of wood, ceramic and woven items that just plain fit as gifts and as home-ware.  The next evening we drove over to Oak Ridge and met Mark De Rose & Ray Smith from Oakridge Visitors and Explore Oak Ridge.  We had dinner at Dean’s Restaurant & Bakery for some ribs and specials. Oak Ridge as we posted a few days back is a terrific place to visit. Museums and a true more modern America will be your host here. You know, and feel that history was made here that changed the course of human destiny. This is the place the nuclear age was born! NOTE* Stay tuned more coming about Anderson County.

Hoskins 1940’s Soda Fountain at Hoskins Drug Store Established in 1930.

AmericanPressTravelNews-May 14th, Clinton, TN.-Bob & Barb “On The Road Again” this time at Norris Lake, Clinton, Rocky Top & Oak Ridge, Tennessee–Floats, ice cream sodas, banana splits, tuna sandwiches, hot dogs and chili-a real soda fountain with great old timey lunches. I opted for a “dog” smothered in chili (oh my) with their home made potato chippers. Barb sprung for a tuna sandwich, and we both had malted’s like those served in “days of awe.”There was a display that included the menu seen here. Can you imagine a menu from the 1940’s soda fountain, ten years after the drug store was established in 1930? 20-cent sandwiches, pimento, ham, tuna,  malts & shakes 25-cents, banana split 35-cents, ice cream dish with nuts 25-cents, and WOW root beer at 35-cents. Todays menu everything times 1000 in comparison, boy has our dollar morphed into so little. Hoskins even in today’s dollars is still a bargain. Visit them and feel the nostalgia at: 111 N. Main St.,Clinton, TN. www.hoskinsdrugstore.com

AmericanPressTravelNews-May 10th,–Bob and Barb “On The Road Again” this time in Anderson County-Clinton, Oak Ridge, & Rocky Top, TN.-we dropped our bags and tooth brush at a fabulous condo apartment (which is also on sale now) provided by “Vacations on the Water” in Clinton, TN. Three large bedrooms, two full baths and showers, one with Jacuzzi Tub that we thoroughly enjoyed and relaxed in after a hard day of fishing, museum cruising (more details in next postings), dining and learning all about this Appalachian historical area. Below the condo there is a marina store next door, down the shore a bit, with all manner of boaters and anglers needs and even a weekend restaurant! We went fishing, visited The Museum of the Appalachia for an article for New Pioneer Magazine, and spent quite a bit of terrific times at Oak Ridge, now designated as a National Park.

The condo unit (with an elevator for convenience) would easily accommodate more than one couple or family and would be an extremely reasonably priced vacation rental.
