AmericanPressTravelNews-Sept. 23rd, Florida Keys–Bob and Barb “On the Road again?” Yes, we are booked to do an updated book of our original sold-out book: “The Best Restaurants in the Florida Keys.” The first book reviewed 60-Florida Keys restaurants, many still in business, some not since the 1980’s. The book had distinctly tropical recipes, comments on each page by charter captains about their favorite restaurants and dishes, collected articles from my column in the Miami Herald, and many of my own recipes one of which is being served in many restaurants across the country; “Fish Pizzaiole.”  There have been nearly 100-new restaurants opened in the Keys since the 1980’s and Bob and Barb have been tasked to include them in the new book while updating all the original food emporiums they visited and tasted. This book will be hard-cover, full-color, and with an expanded Keys recipe section from the best of the best in the Keys!

For an original signed copy of the last 25 books I have held on to, contact Bob Epstein 772-812-0933 or [email protected]

www.americanpresstravelnews.com -Sept. 14th, Dunkirk, NY.- Bob and Barb “On The Road Again”- While visiting sites along Lake Erie, we visited Dunkirk, New York. The Dunkirk lighthouse is a must see if you are traveling through. The 61 foot tower still has its original third order Fresno lens. The lights 27-mile range makes Dunkirk one of the most prominent on Lake Erie. Tours include the original historic home of the lighthouse keepers along being able to go up to the lighthouse tower. The tale is that the home is haunted and has haunted tours. Go get haunted, ha, ha! For additional information visit their website at : www.dunkirklighthouse.com.

You know you’re a Floridian if….

Socks are only for bowling.

You never use an umbrella because you know the rain will be over in five minutes.

A good parking place has nothing to do with distance from the store, but everything to do with shade.

Your winter coat is made of denim.

You can tell the difference between fire ant bites and mosquito bites.

You’re younger than thirty but some of your friends are over 65.

Anything under 70 degrees is chilly.

You’ve driven through Yeehaw Junction.

You know that no other grocery store can compare to Publix.

Every other house in your neighborhood had blue roofs in 2004-2005.

You know that anything under a Category 3 just isn’t worth waking up for.

You dread love bug season.

You are on a first name basis with the Hurricane list. They aren’t Hurricane Charley or Hurricane Frances. You know them as Andrew, Charley, Frances , Ivan, Jeanne & Wilma

You know what a snowbird is and when they’ll leave.

You think a six-foot alligator is actually pretty average.

‘Down South’ means  Key West

Flip-flops are everyday wear. Shoes are for business meetings and church, but you HAVE worn flip flops to church before.

You have a drawer full of bathing suits, and one sweatshirt.

You get annoyed at the tourists who feed seagulls.

A mountain is any hill 100 feet above sea level.

You know the four seasons really are: Hurricane season, love bug season, tourist season and summer.

You’ve hosted a hurricane party.

You can pronounce Okeechobee, Kissimmee, Withlacoochee, Thonotosassa and Micanopy.

You understand why it’s better to have a friend with a boat, than have a boat yourself.

You were 25 when you first met someone who couldn’t swim.

You’ve worn shorts and used the A/C on Christmas and New Year’s.

You recognize Miami-Dade as ‘North Cuba’

You not only forward this but you understand it

Global Pet Expo Highlighted K9S FOR WARRIORS Program! May is Military Appreciation Month

K9s For Warriors LogoAmerican Press Travel News – May 18th,- Bob and Barb “On The Road Again” at the Global Pet Expo., in Orlando’s Orange County, Convention Center- We headed up on the first day of this event to listen to a presentation of how and why Bayer expanded its partnership with K9s for Warriors. K9s For Warriors is the only non profit service dog organization for veterans suffering with post traumatic stress disorder (PSSD) for post-911 veterans.  They pair specially trained service dogs with the veteran. The veteran is required to live and train for 120-hours on-site with their service dogs and certified dog trainers, before going home. This program has reported 100-percent success rate in suicide prevention for its graduates. <>

Bryan Folz, pictured with his Service Dog Dell, a recent graduate, said that “the program delivers the compassion and second chances for veterans shelter dogs alike.” Dell saved my life and now I can focus on taking care of Dell. Thank you, thank you to all the Veterinarians, pet retailers, who have participated nationwide for helping us heal from debilitating disorders like PTSD each and every day.”

This is truly a lifeline for these warriors. Until now, the veteran had to be able to afford all the expenses for the dog. Many veterans were shut out of the program due to the expense. Today, Bayer announced that they have partnered with veterinary clinics for a free health and wellness plan and pet retailers to curtail the expense of keeping veterans with their dog.  The Global Pet Expo was the second largest pet event in the world, only eclipsed by the Expo in Nuremberg, Germany. There were appx. 3012 booths spread out over 1-million square feet and taken up by 1087 exhibitors. Before the end of the conference there were more than 6000-buyers at the show and a large contingent of press enjoyed the hospitality of sponsors such as Bayer and others.  For more information contact: www.k9sforwarriors.org and www.animalhealth.bayer.com
