Snook, That Fine, Ferocious Line-sider Fishes Season Will Reopen in Gulf State Waters

snooktoday

APtravelnews-FL. –February 23rd,–From FWC–The recreational harvest season for one of Florida’s premier fish, snook, reopens on March 1 in Florida’s Gulf of Mexico state and adjacent federal waters, including Everglades National Park and Monroe County. The season will remain open through April 30.

In the Gulf, anglers may keep one snook per day that is not less than 28 or more than 33 inches total length, which is measured from the most forward point of the head with the mouth closed to the farthest tip of the tail with the tail compressed or squeezed while the fish is lying on its side. A snook permit is required to keep snook, along with a saltwater fishing license unless exempt from the license requirements. Only hook-and-line gear is allowed when targeting or harvesting snook.

It is illegal to buy or sell snook.

Snook are one of the many reasons Florida is the Fishing Capital of the World. The FWC encourages anglers to use moderation when determining whether or not to take a snook home during the open season. When choosing to release a fish, the FWC encourages anglers to handle it carefully to help the fish survive upon release. Proper handling methods can help ensure the species’ abundance for anglers today and generations to come. To learn more about fish handling, visit MyFWC.com/Fishing and click on “Saltwater,” “Recreational Regulations” and “Fish Handling.”

Researchers ask anglers who harvest the fish to save the carcasses after the meat is filleted and provide the carcasses to the FWC by dropping them off at a participating bait and tackle store. These donations allow researchers to better determine the age groups that are being harvested, which makes stock assessments more precise. For a county-by-county list, go to MyFWC.com/Research and click on “Saltwater,” “Saltwater Fish,” “Snook” and “Snook Anglers Asked to Help with Research.”

In Atlantic state and federal waters (including Lake Okeechobee and the Kissimmee River) the season is open through May 31, and one snook may be kept per person, per day. The size limit in Atlantic waters is no less than 28 inches total length and no more than 32 inches total length.

Global Warming, the Joke is On Us! I’m Still Going to Drive My Van!

Global warming due to "US" has not melted my Arctic landing pad!
Global warming due to “US” has not melted my Arctic landing pad!

APtravelnews-February 15th, The Arctic–40-below and the copter was still operating, but no, we didn’t shut the motor down. Sure, we may be in a warming cycle, the earth has been in and out of these cycles for untold millions of years. Why would anyone be so foolish as to think people are changing the worlds climate in any truly significant way? As a world traveler, for the past 52-years, I’ve seen and heard many things from many people, including some of the finest true Scientists in the world. But frankly, not a one of these “true” Scientists” that did not have a political agenda, ever espoused that the cause of the “big melt” was due to humanity! Yes, in various locales, and on a micro-climate basis there have been some changes and (very limited areas) but G-D and his, its, hers nature is still calling the shots! The only thing I can say is move over Florida, with this winter and the past couple, lots of folks up North Country way are going to be looking for a home in the sun!

Which Political Party Would Bode Well For Outdoorsmen and Women?

Aptravelnews-February 7th,–Maggie Valley, N. Carolina–Bob and Barb “Stopping to Smell the Roses” and the wildlife too! My premise is quite a-political. I believe you can never trust an official that does not hunt or fish to be in charge of our natural and wild places. They just don’t get it! They have an ax to grind that favors the takers of our natural resources, unnaturally and for dollars!  So, all Americans are in danger of losing by fiat, their outdoor hunting and fishing rights regardless if they are the only ones that play by GODS rules!

Elk after being  reintroduced back to where they once lived before the forests were mostly denuded by mans needs for lumber and other natural resources!

If you play tennis, golf, ball, that’s great, but if do you shun the delights of the “real” outdoors; the places where macadam and cement is rare and nature offers the gift of the world as it is, and was before mans foot-prints were scarce and natures heavy-hand is, and was heavy laden, you give in to the false facts, that fishing and hunting, wildlife viewing and photography, hiking, kayaking-any simple outdoor pursuit has little value, but for harvest of trees and energy products latrout lodge barb and deernd leasing uses. Just a thought for this February Saturday!
