Memorial Day, Yes Memories of Those that Gave Their All, for All of Us!

AmericanPressTravelNews-May 29th, -Goose Holler’ Farm, TN.-Bob and Barb “Stopping to Smell the Roses” at the Farm!  As my dad was in the Battle of the Bulge, became permanently injured by loss of digits on his feet, but was able to continue to work and build a family, he was truly one of the lucky ones that went to, and came home from war. Besides being disfigured, he never got over his experiences and never spoke of them if he could help it! This weekend is for those that gave up everything for all of us, the world included, to keep us safe from the barbarism of the Germans and the Japanese, who both started a conflict that has been credited for killing over 60-million humans, people who wanted more than anything else to just live in peace and happiness. So this weekend, may the young who do not remember what happened before, that now lets them live free lives, doing great things and some very stupid things as well, and those that do remember the terror that is still going on to day in the Middle East, should thank more than their “lucky stars” ,in remembrance of those that went to heaven for us all. We all need to take a moment and pledge to them with our hand over our heart to the flag that has given us the freedoms, we now so often all take for granted!

Crawfish by the bowl-full to claw through, corn, Andounille sausage, potatoes, we didn’t order it, but our new friends shared the goodness!
We had a terrific crawfish dinner as good as if we were in LA.

Americanpresstravelnews-May 28th, Goose Holler’ Farm, TN.– B n B ‘s (your aptravelnews writer/photographers)  Wedding Anniversary- OK! So what to do when you reach that day when your wedding anniversary rolls around? Well, you go out to a friendly, great food restaurant, eat and chat with fellow diners and have at least one beer!  That’s what we did yesterday, we went to the Pour House. Barb had cod, I had a shrimp Pour Boy sandwich and our friends the Limoges had the same. Sitting near us on benches for chairs (to encourage that neighborly atmosphere of congeniality and talk) we met several couples, some from TN. a some from Louisiana and some from Gatlinburg all coming to Crossville to enjoy the all-you-can-eat crawfish boil. We tasted everyone else meals, we talked, ate and drank in a very friendly, happy atmosphere! It was our first time at the Pour House with very reasonable prices, and we are going back as much for the food as for the relaxed friendly atmosphere! Ask us about this great spot!

Global Pet Expo Highlighted K9S FOR WARRIORS Program! May is Military Appreciation Month

K9s For Warriors LogoAmerican Press Travel News – May 18th,- Bob and Barb “On The Road Again” at the Global Pet Expo., in Orlando’s Orange County, Convention Center- We headed up on the first day of this event to listen to a presentation of how and why Bayer expanded its partnership with K9s for Warriors. K9s For Warriors is the only non profit service dog organization for veterans suffering with post traumatic stress disorder (PSSD) for post-911 veterans.  They pair specially trained service dogs with the veteran. The veteran is required to live and train for 120-hours on-site with their service dogs and certified dog trainers, before going home. This program has reported 100-percent success rate in suicide prevention for its graduates. <>

Bryan Folz, pictured with his Service Dog Dell, a recent graduate, said that “the program delivers the compassion and second chances for veterans shelter dogs alike.” Dell saved my life and now I can focus on taking care of Dell. Thank you, thank you to all the Veterinarians, pet retailers, who have participated nationwide for helping us heal from debilitating disorders like PTSD each and every day.”

This is truly a lifeline for these warriors. Until now, the veteran had to be able to afford all the expenses for the dog. Many veterans were shut out of the program due to the expense. Today, Bayer announced that they have partnered with veterinary clinics for a free health and wellness plan and pet retailers to curtail the expense of keeping veterans with their dog.  The Global Pet Expo was the second largest pet event in the world, only eclipsed by the Expo in Nuremberg, Germany. There were appx. 3012 booths spread out over 1-million square feet and taken up by 1087 exhibitors. Before the end of the conference there were more than 6000-buyers at the show and a large contingent of press enjoyed the hospitality of sponsors such as Bayer and others.  For more information contact: www.k9sforwarriors.org and www.animalhealth.bayer.com

Kings Kitchen-A Southern Kitchen On a Local Charlotte, NC Mission

AMERICAN PRESS TRAVEL NEWS–Charlotte, NC–Right in the city of Charlotte, NC sits the Kings Kitchen. Barb and I loved the food and especially the concept for this restaurant-that was so much more than a place of gastronomy!

From the Kings Kitchen Bakery at the restaurant, this cheese Danish style pastry had me licking my fingers after all of this large pastry made it past my palate!

From their original mission statement 12-years ago: The King’s Kitchen operates as a public restaurant, serving local, healthy, Southern cuisine and the profits and proceeds from “The King’s Kitchen” goes toward feeding the poor. In addition, The King’s Kitchen works with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Dream Center to operate “The Restoration Program” a five-part training program to employ, train and minister the gospel of Jesus Christ to the homeless, the poor, troubled youth, rehab graduates and other members of their community who are in need of employment. The King’s Kitchen operates in the spirit of excellence by training and equipping the whole person (spirit, soul and body) thereby sending out developed leaders into their community. This is being done by working together with other local ministries, businesses, nonprofits and people of faith. According to Lindsay Nielander, Event Coordinator and Manager, the Chef, Steven Young Graduated from Johnson & Wales Culinary School, but most importantly he has drawn not only from his schooling, but also from being able to use local produce and goods that has allowed him to experiment, yet keep the flavors as close to the Southern traditions of down- to- earth cuisine that pleases all who indulge in his presentations. Once we get back and enjoy a full spectrum of entrees we will publish another well deserved piece on the Kings Kitchen and Bakery. In the meantime, don’t wait, give a call to 704-375-1990 or also go to kingskitchen.org  The Kitchen is located at 129 West Trade St. Charlotte, NC 28202

A coconut dessert to dream over! We only had time to try a couple of desserts and coffee. We had other time constraints, but we’re going back! Everything is luscious at Kings Kitchen and the people are so dedicated to cuisine and people!
