APtravelnews-November 6th,- Bob and Barb in New Smyrna Beach, still stopping to “Smell the Roses”, even visiting the Mosquito Lagoon, as well as tasting the best of what New Smyrna “foodies” already are savvy to.
After having a great waffle breakfast at the Night Swan B&B, we walked the streets of Canal Street Historic District, just 4-big blocks away in downtown N.S.B. checking out the very cute and attractive shops. We stopped into a few of them to check out their offerings for home, den and garden and got some great ideas for decorating our home.
At the New Smyrna Beach, Antiques Mall, we found all kinds of fishing collectibles amidst things lost and found from a past American era. At a nearby gift shop Barb found colorful porcelain turtles that I love to decorate our waterfront home with. Then, after lunch at the Cork Screw Bar and Grill (see full story on this excellent year old restaurant in part 4 of our trip to N.S.B) we headed for an Eco- tour from the Marine Discovery Center, on the Dolphin Discovery Boat Tour.
Barb and I relaxed from our very quick trip to N.S.B. (glad we brought our jackets for on the water comfort, you can always take it off, if you don’t have it, you can’t) and listened to a delightfully energetic and knowledgeable guide, and a very able Captain take us, and several couples and children too, on a critter watch tour around the average 4-foot deep, Mosquito Lagoon. The Mosquito Lagoon runs some, 160-miles along the east coast of Florida. We viewed feeding dolphins, and even one that was asleep on half of it’s brain, while being aware and up on its other side of the brain (remarkable split brain that’s 4-times larger than a humans) we saw all manner of wading and diving birds, a few loons, tons of brown pelicans and assorted other birds that rely on the fish and other prey critters of the Lagoon!
