Broadway Is Back at The Playhouse on Rodney Square in Delaware

APtravelnews- Wilmington, DEL 4/19/15…Big time Broadway is back at The Playhouse on Rodney Square.  Previously known as the DuPont Theatre, The Playhouse on Rodney Square’s 2015-2016 production schedule has just been unveiled.  It features six high profile Broadway favorites.  The season begins with the ever popular Annie (Dec. 1-6) followed by “Chicago – The Musical” (Jan. 2-17), “Mama Mia!” (Mar. 4-6), “Blue Man Group” (Mar. 17-20), “Forty-Second Street” (Apr. 19-24) and concludes with the riveting “Jersey Boys”
(May 10-15). The Playhouse on Rodney Square is now being managed by the Grand Opera House which is also located in Wilmington less than two blocks from The Playhouse.  Steve Bailey, the Managing Director of Programming at both the Grand and The Playhouse on Rodney Square said “We recognize the Playhouse on Rodney Square as a community asset that we are managing on their (DuPont’s) behalf.”  Executive Director Mark Fields points out that “The former 102-year-old DuPont Theatre is the longest continuously operating Broadway touring house in the country.  It’s also one of the smallest.”  According to Fields, this presents a serious challenge for The Playhouse on Rodney Square.  Therefore the budget for the new season represents a 25 percent increase over last year’s expenditures when DuPont was at the helm and the new theatre leadership has teamed up with Innovation Arts & Entertainment, an innovative Chicago-based company, to ensure the success of their commitment to book the best that Broadway has to offer.  Fields said Adam Epstein, the firm’s head, “…has the connections, and quite frankly, the clout to deliver a Broadway series in Wilmington that you (theatre patrons) want and that we think you deserve.”Season tickets are now on sale at www.theplayhousede.org, by calling 302-888-0200 and at the box office.  Packages range from $140 for a four-show package to $590 for premium weekend seats for all six shows.  Individual show tickets will go on sale in late summer or early fall.In addition to the six Broadway plays, Bailey says the 1,240-seat Playhouse will also serve as an alternate venue for concerts.  If the 1,208-seat Grand is not available, event sponsors now have the option to book at The Playhouse.  Lyn Lewis

Berkley From 1937-2015 Has Provided Great Fishing Lures, lines and Anglers Products Found In Every Big Box and Mom & Pop Store Across the USA

So 78-years later (read the article) I still rely on Berkley for up-to-date, tried and tested terminal fishing tackle!

APtravelnews-April 19th, Crossville, TN.-We have been in travel mode from FL to TN and finally settled in and turned on the “box with keys!”

When I received my sample Berkley package of line and lures at a SEOPA (Southeastern Outdoor press Associaition) Conference. I had stashed it away for a look-see,  it had gotten packed and buried until now that we have begun our house-cleaning chores in our summer and fall home on the Cumberland Plateau in TN.

Having been around for quite awhile and seen the evolution in fishing gear, I was particularly taken (once again) how much strength, durability and thickness of modern lines has come into being from here-to-fore lines of the thick- milled past. To me limpness, ease of casting, small footprint for a fish to think about whether to swim away or attack the baits, attached to nearly invisible thread between angler and fish, is paramount in placing said line on my reel!

Well, there are many companies that can boast of having such modern lines, but Berkley truly stands out for me as one of the very best! When I first met Berkley Bedell, I felt that he was more than a business man and entrepreneur in the fishing industry, I saw his passion and believed that he loved fishing as much as anyone could-perhaps even more than I did and do?  In any event, the Berkley name is on almost all of the products found today in every tackle shop across the USA ( I do prefer to buy my gear from mom and pop stores that are disappearing as quickly as wisdom teeth, lately} but thanks to the giant box stores being able to sell a million items more cheaply that a small tackle shop with the owners knowledge and advice of all things fishing for an angler to tap into over a box of hooks, lures, rods and reels and lines, fishing interest is proliferating, as well!  However,Americans today have tended to discount that advice, except perhaps in the fly fishing circles where matching everything and the hatch, to a wily trout, instead of a dumb bass (which I love with a passion as well) still is understood by the non-tournament bound anglers seeking competition for love or money! No matter! I use gear, from spin, conventional rolling pin reels, push-button I find at travel destinations on water when I forget to carry my tackle and my toothbrush too, and of course one or more of my nearly, 100 of my favorite fly outfits!

Any size line, enough variety in all manner of hard and soft baits, tools that all anglers need is the hallmark of Berkley Products!

Spiro Taverna Prides Itself Rightly in Capturing The Warm Tradition of Great Greek Cuisine

Flaming brandy on cheese! Delicious once the fire was out! Loved this appetizer!
Flaming brandy on cheese! Delicious once the fire was out! Loved this appetizer!

APtravelnews-April 11th– Port St Lucie West, FL.Barb and I have once again put on our cuisine hats and visited Spiro’s Taverna Greek Restaurant.  If there is one dish I enjoy its shish kabob. I’ve had this skewered, either chicken, or marinated pork dish braised for me all over the world! Recently, we have kept our hunger under control in the good old USA. There are so many fabulous places all over the US, and it would take many lifetimes to visit all of these thousands of food emporiums, so why bother traveling anywhere else? Every country in the world’s cuisine is represented healthfully in this country-no more going to Mexico for me, hate spending my nights with stomach miseries!

OK! So we first dove into a flaming  Saganaki of cooked golden brown Greek Kasseri cheese doused with brandy and set aflame at the table (see image) coupled with fresh bakes pita bread. Quite delicious and really revved up our appetite (helps not to eat lunch, the day you go for dinner at a Greek Restaurant). A quick lip-wipe and then our shish kabob showed up in the hands of our able and smiling server; Tara. With rice, a dish of tzatziki a creamy delicious condiment that is so Greek and we absolutely face-slapped this marinated, burnt on the edges, grilled meat with a comma of tasty green pepper between each piece on the skewer. Barb and I share everything as we comment on each and every aspect of our review meals for American Press Travel News. So it was with the next dish; a Greek sampler platter replete with Moussaka, pastitsio, & spinach pie.  These are authentic and we might as well have been in Athens at a Taverna there, but without the plane, transfers and Russian Roulette accommodations we had it our way in Spiro’s. The owners also have two other Greek food emporiums: Olympic Taverna in Jensen Beach and the Olympic Diner in Palm City. We plan on visiting them when we come back from our farm.

Spiro’s “Live Long Eat Greek”; their motto, is located at 1738 SW Saint LucieWest Blvd. Port St Lucie, FL 772-879-4083  www.spirostaverna.comIMG_5154
