The White Carrot Restaurant in Mayville, New York Par Excellance

AmericanPressTravelNews-June 29th, Team Bob and Barb back home at Goose Holler’ Farm after “Stopping to Smell the Roses” in Upstate New York-While there we enjoyed the wonderfully upscale “The  White Carrot”, fine dining restaurant.

Chef/Owner Brian Kienld has got it “going on.” Paring various wines to each of 3 or 7-courses of true French cuisine, will make for a great evening taking your honey out for any special occasion. Barb and I had a great time here. Out back, there are tables on their covered patio deck, or eat inside with AC. The pond and water geyser fountain was beautiful. Veggies & herbs growing organically in the chefs special garden, friendly and attentive wait staff, soaring ceilings and a bar to call home about, too! Now here were the delicious  food offerings: We tried a Korean BBQ Pork Belly. Sour Cream & onion potatoes, red onion Agrodolce. It was paired with Katherine Goldschmidt Cabernet, California 2014. The Garden Plate was a celebration of great veggies and the salad was paired with Fontana Candida Pinot Grigio, Italy 2015. We eventually finished off our meals with Strawberry Panna Cotta. Strawberry biscuits. The Mazza Ice Wine, a Lake Erie, wine product 2013 was extraordinary. Mushroom Farro. Stuffed with 4-year old Gouda & Summer Truffles. San Lorenzo Chianti, an Italian wine 2015 was paired with this dish.

www.americanpresstravelnews.com – June 25th – Today is a full day of exploring the area. Joanna Dahlbeck from Chautauqua Tourism introduced me to some of the little known places you can visit in the area. There are many small towns in the Chautauqua area. We started with an Amish Produce and Flower auction in North Clymer. This particular day at the auction had was called the wholesale day. It is open to the public, but the items are on a flat. If you bid, you need to buy the whole flat. Other days are retail and you can bid on one of an item. To find out more the website is: www.chautauquaproduceauction.com. The flowers were so beautiful that it was hard to resist. But we were too far from our TN. home to pack them away.

Not far from the auction was the Green Heron Growers. One of their specialties is growing shiitake mushrooms. Julie Rockcastle met us and explained the process of growing these delicious mushrooms. They also raise chickens, grass fed beef, vegetables and herbs (and much more). All certified organic. Julie and her husband Steve offer farm tours along with workshops and culinary experiences.

Stedman Corners Cafe

 It was such a beautiful day, so we decided to have lunch at Stedman Corners Cafe in Mayville. They have a lovely outdoor area and we enjoyed one of their over sized sandwiches in the cool breeze. Located at Stedman Corners in Mayville, N.Y.

Stedman Corners Corners Cafe started as a general store in 1898. It was a favorite place to buy “fresh ground coffee”. Today the cafe serves breakfast and lunch and on some nights dinner. AmericanPressTravelNews-May 20th,-Bob & Barb “On the Road Again”-Anderson County, Clinton, & Oak Ridge, TN.-Besides enjoying a great condo experience on Norris Lake, at Pinnacle Point with “Vacations on the Water” , we also had to eat didn’t we? So Our first day in Clinton we we headed for dinner at Golden Girls Restaurant (Barbs favorite sitcom)  with the rooster outside. Great veggies, chopped steak with grilled onions the way we like them and plenty of good rolls, as opposed to nasty rolls just out of the micro. Before dinner I fished the morning with Guide Scott Manning described in a previous post as very professional and a great big catfish finder. Then it was home to lunch at Hoskins 1940’s Soda Fountain (as previously reported in last weeks post) for a malted and a tuna sandwich, um, um good. A bit later we visited the Appalachian Arts and Crafts Center. We love crafts; talented people who learned by trial and error to make all manner of wood, ceramic and woven items that just plain fit as gifts and as home-ware.  The next evening we drove over to Oak Ridge and met Mark De Rose & Ray Smith from Oakridge Visitors and Explore Oak Ridge.  We had dinner at Dean’s Restaurant & Bakery for some ribs and specials. Oak Ridge as we posted a few days back is a terrific place to visit. Museums and a true more modern America will be your host here. You know, and feel that history was made here that changed the course of human destiny. This is the place the nuclear age was born! DJ’s Diner & Seafood Grill Like the 1950’s Great Foods, Great Service-Very Nice People!

AmericanPressTravelNews- Feb.-11th, Bob and Barb “On The Road Again” this time in Key Largo at DJ’s Diner & Seafood Grill.

Besides waffles, pancakes, eggs any way you like, we probably enjoyed the best pot roast luncheon ever! D.J. Miller owner was the 1st Miami Subs franchisee, and he was instrumental in creating their menu. D.J. told me he decided to follow his family tradition and keep the spirit of a 50’s diner, at the same time being trendy and a crossover to classy and sexy foods, too! Here you can get a fab burger, or a grouper piccata, a salad with fish or shrimp, or just the fore mentioned incredible meat and taters. Formerly the Port Largo Coffee Shop opened in 1957, the newer D’J’s opened in the same location in 2000. Very highly recommended!
