At Kona Kai In Key Largo! We are attending Islamorada Birthday Trip, Via The Blue Chip 2 Sportfishing Adventures

American Press Travel News-May 5th–Key Largo and Islamorada, Florida Keys-“Bob & Barb On the Road Again” and “Stopping to Smell the Roses & Admiring the Hibiscus Flowers.. So our son David had his 50th Birthday and was spending his day on the Charter Craft, Blue Chip 2 with veteran Captain Skip Bradeen, his mate David and my sons friends John ElKoury, Billy Pope and Dave, all part of Coastal Reality of the Florida Keys, Allan Pope owner of Keys Life Magazine, Eric Dyer another of David’s childhood and lifelong friends and Captain Key Largo; my younger son Brian Epstein who runs his backcountry boat out of Key Largo and who knows where the big ones lurk and jerk the lines.
The day was blustery, but on the Blue Chip 2 we caught fish, the heck with the wind and swells. Everyone caught dinner sized yellowtail snapper, and some tuna including bonita and down deep Mutton Snappers. It was a great day and it finished with a special fishing and boating themed and decorated cake, too!

At the end of day yours truly went on Captain Skips Radio Show to talk about the day and my published Keys themed books. We ate yellowtail of the day and at least one beer at the Moose Club. Chautauqua Area of New York – So Many Artisan Entrepreneurs Are Bred Here

www.americantravelnews.com . The Reverie Creamery is owned by partners Riko Chandra and Jim Howard in Mayville, New York.  Reverie produces its own seasonal cheeses and also carries a variety of cheeses and goodies from around the world with a focus on small, American, artisanal companies.  Reverie is dedicated to using local ingredients and collaborating with a range of local artisans.  Their artisan products reflect a meaningful relationship to the land and Western New agricultural heritage. Because Reverie Creamery selections of cheese varies seasonally,  there always new things to try. They started as a cheese store selling a selection of Artisan cheeses, but soon began making their own fresh cheese. They are dedicated to using local agricultural products that they continue to market.

Besides their cheeses, their store is full of local food products and handmade items such as carving boards, ceramics, and many other beautiful locally made gifts. They also have cheese & wine pairings, harvest dinners, and many other events. We tasted some of the cheeses that were made on site. Delicous!!! For more information go www.reveriecreamery.com  716-789-5757

The upper Crust Bakery Fredonia

After the cheese tastings, we were ready for lunch. Just a short drive later we arrived at the Upper Crust Bakery and Soup Co. on Main Street in Fredonia, New York.

Their sandwiches look so big, so I ordered a half of homemade tuna with a bowl potato soup. Of course when I looked in the desert case, just had to have one of their delights. Hard to make a decision. They had cinnamon buns, pecan buns, blueberry and raspberry clouds and much more. With my raspberry cloud enjoyed a fresh cup of espresso.

Everything looked so good, it was hard to pick

The next time that we return, we would like to visit the Lily Dale Assembly. We did take a drive overall, to the site and took a walked around. The summer season opens June 30th. The the website has information and the event schedule: www.lilydaleassembly.com.

There are so many places that we missed. Check out: www.tourchautauqua.com

Kaiyogrill & Sushi in Islamorada-A Step Up & Outta Sight for Japanese Cold and Hot Grill Specialties

Avacado stuffed with tuna tartar, and cream cheese, Executive Sous Chef Adrian Quesada, topped this with spicy mayo and tobiko then lightly torched this melange and served it with wonton chips. We were hooked!
Executive Sous Chef Adrian Quesada for the past 4-years, putting the finishing touches on our Avocado Suchi dish-some fire to meld it all together.

AmericanPressTravelNews-January 1st, Bob & Barb “On the Road Again” stopping at the Kaiyogrill & Sushi Dining Establishment-Islamorada, FL Keys. When we visited this upscale, yet laid- back restaurant decorated in a distinctly Asian motif, totally reminiscent of some of the fanciest sushi bars and restaurants found in larger cities such as Miami, Orlando, New York,  we felt right at home. But here it is, gourmet sushi and delightful grill right in the middle of Islamorada, between the Atlantic and a thousand feet to the Gulf of Mexico too! Just about any type of sushi, sashimi, rolls, and a wide variety of hot dishes such as steaks, scallops, stuffed shrimps and lobster tails can be had here, grilled and sumptuous. Executive Sous Chef Adrian Quesada introduced us to their Asian Fusion themed food emporium and we were very impressed. There is a hot and cold kitchen, open six days per week. He described their Udon Noodles (we’re going back to slither some down the pipeline, their “Drunken Scallops” in a beer sauce, and a variety of offerings (see their online menu) that had the juices steadily flowing. Kaiyogrill & Sushi will have their own page in our “Florida Keys Best Restaurants” book coming out in late February. go: www.kaiyoGrill.com (305)-664-5556

How about bread pudding stuffed with banana? We left no one standing for this dessert! Fresh made is how we roll!

Bayside Gourmet of Islamorada Completely Lives Up to The Name

Bayside Gourmet is much more than a great restaurant. It offers a Bakery, Deli, Pizzeria (WOW Pizza, just like Brooklyn of old) and the muffins we took home to try were stuffed-delicious with or without coffee or tea.

AmericanPressTravelNews-December 26th, Islamorada, FL. Keys. Today we are profiling “Bayside Gourmet of Islamorada.” Barb and I have been dining our way up and down the Keys in our pursuit of the best restaurants in the Keys. “Our new, updated book titled: “The Best Restaurants in the Florida Keys” is well on its way towards completion, and the publishers editors, for final once over, before printing.

We enjoyed the service, the aromas from the grill and bakery and generally and particularly the dishes we tasted and ate.

So what were some of the more than 34-daily offerings and specials that are “to live for”: Well, we tried the pizza, so well created and tasty, almost exactly like we remembered as kids living in New York, from the best pizza throwers ever! Moist and absolutely done to perfection! So we also tried one of the 5-gourmet sandwiches-the Tavernier, best cheese and gourmet meat sandwich in the Keys, and we tried Ahi (tuna filet) flown in from Hawaii-spectacular fat content and flavor was amazing. We finished off our sojourn in this gourmet; at down to earth prices, with true Jersey Shore Cheesecake topped with fresh strawberry slices. Sure they have Key Lime and Choco Mousse pie, but come on now, would we pass on “real” Cheesecake? Eat in or take out and even delivery 305-735-4471 82758 Overseas Hywy. MM 82.7 Islamorada, FL. Full of bakery, deli and some of the greatest tasting muffins, but most of all nice and friendly staff!
Ahi Tuna dish was extremely delicious!!
Ahi Tuna tartar dish was unbelievable. The tuna is flown in from Hawaii a few times per week. I had vowed never to eat anything that’s raw or nearly raw. But, after tasting and enjoying this dish, I’ve changed my mind to in the affirmative, but only if I trust the restaurant as I did Bayside Gourmet. Also on the table was the Tavernier Sandwich. Fresh mozzarella, imported proscuitto, tomato and fresh basil, drizzled with virgin olive oil and warmed on a fresh focaccia bread. Pizza, ah the pizza, best we have had in the Keys!!!!!!!
Local, regional and national favorites too!
Tavernier Key sandwich, couldn’t put it down!
Plenty of comfy counter and tables and chairs. Lots of great sociality at Bayside Gourmet as we witnessed later on when counter filled for lunch!
